Yesterday we reported on the mysterious trail of bread crumbs left over the weekend by enigmatic IDM pioneer, Aphex Twin, who utilized street marketing and the deep web to drop hints at his long awaited new album, Syro. While details are unclear at this time, we have just come across an unconfirmed leaked copy of Richard D. James' upcoming album. The zip file packs thirteen tracks wich match the tracklist uncovered by the TOR page tweeted by Aphex's account—with one extra track entitled "nusxxtrabo780."

He used to live a few doors away in a tiny village I was brought up in, so he's a bit of a cult hero figure in these parts, about the same age too and I know what most of his strange early song titles mean as a result, not that they explain the tracks. Nothing much else to do here but make music, that's for sure.

    clownothorns You're absolutely wrong.

That one was a FAKE one, but this one is the real thing

There's even a official scene release with the exact same tracks by NOiR

As with most of his releases since richard d james album, this is patchy. a lot of this stuff wouldn't be out of place 15 years ago. the times have caught up with him ( technology-wise) and so it's all about the musicality now, and on that score i cannot help but feel a bit disappointed. esp. considering it's been thirteen years since his last album... he has a tendency to use a lot of the same, cheap low bit-rate percussive sounds and his pads are very familiar now to. there are two tracks here that feature weird vocals that wouldn't be out of place on the Druqs album... ( rubber johnny "aphexxx.z.z.z" type thing).. and two tracks saturated with amen break which is done to dust and not even dickie boy can breath new life into this utterly exhausted trope of the electronica, edm, all that.
the stand out track so far is minipops there is a very delicate balance in it and it is quite low-key with some lovely ruptures of ethereal pads and very wonky vocals ( actually, i find it reminds me of plaid a lot, a trippy version to be sure, a duo i adore and have been listening to non-stop for ages), bit like alberto balsam, but still only really a 'b' side to masterpieces like windowlicker or come to daddy... he is a family man now, perhaps that has cooled his jets a bit. but i am sorry, 13 years was to long to wait for a pretty average outing as far as aphex twin is concerned. if you make edm or whatever you would call it, repetition can be quite tiresome. the sounds are fine to a point, but his problem ( imho) is he still doesn't seem to have a clear command of structure musically, melodically speaking. ( as indeed Plaid do, in spades) so i can't see my listening to this over and over like richard d james album. i am going back to boards of canada and plaid, but will listen to this again tomorrow with fresh ears.
just my initial and personal opinion. : )

    To Glitch is easy.

Glitching with musical criteria and building an awesome track is not that easy

Everyone can glitch but building those breaks with so many details on them is not easy either.

If you pay attention every single perc/kick/snare/hh is put there in purpose. Nothing random.

Is not a revelation of electronic music’s future, but this is a great and consistent album, if you compare to actual releases.
