Kontakt Timebombed? or User Error?

    Hi Everyone,

    I'm really hoping some one out there can help me out here!

    A friend of mine has been using a cracked version of Kontakt for some time, and recently when Kontakt is booted up it seems take around 10 minutes for the file menu to become accessible. If you try and click out of the Kontakt window, it will freeze Cubase and will need a task manager end process restart.(Screen shot attached)

    My questions are:

    Is this user error or a timebomb?

    And if it is a timebomb, is there anyway or reinstalling Kontakt without the need to reformat (Kontakt seems to place files somewhere when uninstalled, only to be still there when reinstalled)


    This is Kontakt 5.3.1 I think. PC Windows 7 64 bit. There are some libraries installed also.

    Any help would be massively appreciated.

    have you tried removing the libraries and then restarting? you don't need to uninstall them, just remove them from kontakts browser window

    Hi sometimes i get the same error, don't worry its not that hard to fix,

    it could be that you moved or renamed some of the folders
    that you have locked in your view / quick jump

    kontakt will look for these in your database so try reset the quick jump folders,
    in the standalone version,if you don't no how to do this
    just open kontakt a few more times and the quick jump folders will go blank
    and it wont happen again,

    ===

    if that don't work

    it could be your using the x64
    as a stand alone and the x86 in your daw
    or vise versa ,


    what i would do in this case is close kontakt
    with the libraries tab on,
    and see if that helps,
    but im sure its looking for the quick jump folders,

    if you want to reset the database / file = top left / options / database /
    here you can add / update / reset and scan /
    so if you moved or renamed any folders you can fix it there as well.

    one last tip try to get a copy of Acronis True Image
    it will back up your pc so that you wont ever have to load in a plunging or program
    ever again that you now have installed as it will put everything that's loaded on your computer
    back the way it was if it ever comes to the worst,buy a 2 TB external hard drive
    and do a full back up.i use the 2010 version of True Image. :wink:

    Backup & Delete the following files from this folder
    C:\Users\your.user.name\AppData\Local\Native Instruments\Kontakt 5\Db
    Factory.kdb.cache
    kontaktdb2
    kontaktdb2Lock

    and make sure kontakt & all music programs are closed. then after deleting the files launch Kontakt & update your database

    I believe this is your problem

    Sir Silly Sausage: Yes, I removed the libraries for him and then rebooted. The problem also happens in the stand alone version. Thanks anyway mate!

    IntroNinja: I did try this step before jumping on the forum and the problem still exists unfortunately. Thank you anyway mate!

    He's 30 miles from and I was down there yesterday trying to sort it, but it's flummoxed me! This is why I thought it may have time bombed.

    He's going to read the forum today and see if any of the above advice will work.

    Hi same as mine, even i tried to uninstall kontakt, deleted all registry & file related to kontakt, still got the long time booting freezing my daw. im using sequoia 12 & kontakt 5.3.1 64 bit. :(

    you should never delete Kontakt installations it's causes more issues then you first had. What you need to do now is too install Kontakt 5.2.0 then update to 5.3.0 and then 5.3.1

    at the first time, when i just uninstall & reinstall kontakt, the problem still exist. after 3 hours frustrating
    , finally the problem solved, i uninstalled kontakt, manually removed all files & cleaned all registry related to kontakt & service center xml files. then reinstalled kontakt 5.3.0 - update to 5.3.1 & voila, everything works fine. but i have to re add manually kontakt library. hehe thank you. sorry my bad english

    Hi Introninja,

    We've tried installing and reinstalling, deleting registry entries etc.

    I have passed this info to my friend, so I will let you know if installing 5.2 cures the problem. I hope it does!

    Ok, We uninstalled the 5.3 version. Then we installed 5.2.

    Still doing the same thing.

    Anyone got any other ideas before we head to the shed for the flamethrower?

    Just heard that the problem has been fixed.

    Turns out it was the quick jump?

    I don't use Kontakt so I don't know.

    Thankfully this ordeal is over!

    Finally i found the solution for my kontakt, maybe it will help your friend kontakt too,

    Start kontakt, go to files tab (wait until all drive appear (maybe 5 minutes) select-> View, uncheck show network drives, uncheck show removable drives, uncheck show foreign formats. hehehe.
