That's quick string scrathing, when changing/switching chords on guitar. Some people hate it (and automate volume dips) and some people like it. I tend to leave them in, because that's how it (usually) sounds when you play a guitar. If the guitar is compressed hard, sometimes these quirks passes through even louder (as there is less energy in the highs, and these are not triggering the compressor).

I don't know how to recreate it with synthesis.

Just to clear up a little. He is not actually performing a technique. Those scratch noises are just what happens when you switch between chords when you're not trying to play really cleanly. So those scratch noises were unintentional. I call it fret noise. Cause its usually noise you don't want when playing a chord progression switching frets between chords. But yes, you can also do it on purpose by dragging fingers across the strings. You could probably find some guitar samples to download, and isolate some different fret noises. I know some library makers brag how there guitar samples have the fret noise built in. Same thing as some piano samples with the hammer or mechanical noise in the samples.

Ah, "fret noise"! I though "fret scratch" sounded weird. English isn't my mother tongue, but I've played guitar for 20+ years. :)

(because that's how it (usually) sounds)

You mean ALWAYS sounds especially on acoustics on wounded strings it is almost impossible to NOT get that sound well you could of course lift your hand of the strings move then touch the strings again in the new place but even then it will make "some" noice

Some guitar sound libraries have these sample included. I cant remember where I heard it now. Maybe in Ilya Efimov's library.

Yeah, indeed. New wounded strings on acoustic is a bitch, but lovely to play. :) My dad (also a guitarist) didn't like the fretnoises, so I practiced quite alot to remove them, and it got better but they were still there. But now I have learned to like them. Fuck off, dad! :)

Yes it is possible to get rid of it playing in one position and also if the song is in slow tempo and not needed quick changes around the fretboard one can get by with lifting the fretting hand very quickly but as you say they still there but i also get used to it but with new strings it is very annoying it gets better after a week or so
