in the past, when the world was alright, a record company or publisher would have asked you to sign a declaration that it is yours what you are leasing him. same with collecting societies.

no matter how low the chance is that you get caught when you claim copyright over public domain or stolen content, at least you had to face harsh consequences if you got caught - so most people did not even try.

today there is streaming. every idiot, including huge companies, bots or AI agents can upload some nonsense and all what happens to them is that the titles get removed. and as you say, soon it will get harder to find out.

the solution is contained in my first line. but i dont think they will ever do that.

 

This is not incorrect, but it is not the question I was asking facetiously. I'm asking about companies such as Warner Music Group, who entered into a deal with SUNO. Three big companies had sued SUNO over copywrite issues, and at least one we know about entered into a deal with them instead. Do we honestly believe such large record companies will not hold enough sway with the retailer platforms like Spotify, Google, etc. to be able to negotiate their own products not being held to the same level of "AI-Fingerprinting" as indie labels, etc? They will not be using SUNO, but are we are to assume such similar companies that had to give in to the Actors and Writers Guild's AI contract provisions to not replace actors and extras using AI are all of a sudden going to turn over a new leaf and begin doing the right things? I wouldn't take that bet.

The music industry needs a new authority to oversee it, with full control, free of any kind of outside influence and corruption. A FIFA of music. And the Infantino of the music world? My money is on Sebastian Bach.

 

What we need is actual musician unions that protect us, that are connected internationally to help us organise and put a stop to this.

 

If we haven't managed to establish musicians' unions by now, we won't manage to do so in the future either.

 

In 80's Musicians Union was up in arms over synths & drum boxes, believing they would take work away from their members, daft luddite logic because it created more music and more musicians right thru to today.

AI can improve your work, that's it, another tool, don't believe the hype.

All AI can do is a pastiche of any genre, even McCartney can't write a decent Beatles song today, only laymen & con men, need suno etc.

You all need to accept the inevitable, it's not the enemy, it's here to stay, and most importantly what are you all so scared of?

It hasn't affected the quality of my work one iota or prevented me from releasing plenty of bangin' music and never will.

Most users just sit alone in front of their monitors every day, hoping the world will improve on its own—but it won't. You have to get off your ass and actually do something out there in the real world.

The artists I know—myself included—took a different path: we founded local non-profit associations, joined the Artists' Social Security Fund (KSK), or started music collectives and organized our own local concerts. That meant inviting bands, finding a venue, talking to the city administration, finding a sponsor for fencing, setting up the perimeter, organizing the box office, designing and putting up posters, and applying for a municipal guarantee against financial loss. There were about twelve of us who also looked for and fitted out rehearsal spaces.

As you can see, dear @Leivo, it is entirely possible to take action right where you live!

well, for record companies it would be the perfect deal: they first get money from the AI model builders for their catalog, do in most cases not have to pay out externals labels and composers bc of old contracts, and then the AI model owners and users can not publish music and ask for money from the consumer, so that AI music is not becoming a competition for the old recordings.

 

don´t you see that both apporaches will end up with the same problem; people will in both cases upload AI content without tagging it as such.

the only thing what would help is to include a USD 10k fine in the contracts.
