I don't care about Apple dropping support for Intel or any of that. The only software I care about is EW OPUS and it took EastWest years to technically* drop compatibility for Mojave (which is what I'm running on my Macbook - and will be running until the end times because that's the last version that supports the FireWire MOTIF XF driver and Edirol SD-90 vendor drivers) and that happened in late 2024. Over six whole years. I'll be fine.

*just don't update some libraries past a certain version

with an external cage, one could simply turn off the power before going into Hackintosh mode. Saves stress & wear removing & reinserting the cable. When & macOS may detect the cable with no device attached (cage power off) but, no device. Similar to having a USB Thumb drive inserted that is formatted in a way that the OS can not read it.

Depending on overall cost, I would probably go with a true Apple Silicon Mac of some sort that meets workflow requirements to be truthful.

well, if you mean to have a real mac in addition to the windows PC, then of course yes.

but you dont know what he is doing. maybe he likes the idea of accessing the same files from the same HD or whatever.

i sometimes wished i could disonnect the internal SATA storage of one of my machines from outside. one day i might end up creating a switch in the enclosure for that.
