Audio Damage has remade their old plugin, Ronin, to modern formats and platforms, so Linux/macOS/Windows/ipadOS (VST3/AUv3/CLAP/LV2). The original still is available from their Free & Legacy section and runs fine with jBridge (maybe other ways).

From quick testing it sounds the same (as they claim) and it still sounds very grungy. It's a semi-modular filter/delay/saturation effect where the fun begins when you start adding feedback loops to the signal path. Highly recommend mapping some parameters to MIDI and play it like an instrument or automate it. I can get loud so maybe stick a limiter after it and keep the volume down when doing the initial patching.

pixelsncodes Lumen is a new open-source two-oscillator wavetable Synthesizer plugin that transforms images into sound.
In the first half of 2026, the plugin market was flooded with new developers and AI-coded plugins. Many use the technology to realize ideas they couldn’t before, while others try to build a business around it.

Among the many new AI plugins, some show potential. pixelsncodes has released Lumen, a free open-source wavetable Synthesizer plugin built around image-to-audio conversion.



pixelsncodes Lumen
Lumen is a new, free, open-source synthesizer plugin. Currently only for Windows, but a macOS version is in development. As stated on the website, Lumen was created using an AI coding agent (Claude). It’s positive that it’s being communicated publicly.

Otherwise, you would have recognized it from the website or the interface, which have typical AI design elements. Although I find the user interface better than many other AI-generated plugins that all look the same.

Lumen has two interface levels: play and deep. The play area gives you four macro controls that perform musical actions, and what you hear is always visible.

The macro controls are tone, motion, space, and texture. Additionally, you have the image-to-wavetable engine on the right to explore. You can drop an image and see what happens using the scan and spectral settings.

It reads the actual bytes of your image and turns them into a wavetable.



Deep Dive
You can delve much deeper in the DEEP section. Here, the complete engine of the Lumen Synthesizer unfolds. This feature is reminiscent of classic wavetable synths.

It offers two wavetable oscillators with real-time visualization and various controls like morph, blend, level, pan, and more. With the morph parameter, you can smoothly morph through frames.

A multi-wave sub-oscillator and a multimode noise generator add more depth to your wavetable foundation. The same section also has the voice settings.

Then, pixelsncodes Lumen has a state-variable filter with a drive stage. On the modulation side, it houses three ADSR envelopes with curve control, and three multi-wave LFOs that can be assigned via drag-and-drop.

Refinements to the sounds can be done with a built-in multi-FX processor. It includes four fully adjustable FX processors: drive, chorus, delay, and reverb. Lumen ships with various presets right out of the box.

First Impression
I’m not a Windows user, so I can’t give Lumen a test drive. But it looks like an interesting open-source Synthesizer.
pixelsncodes Lumen is available now as a free download. It’s open-source, and the code is available on GitHub. It runs as a VST3 plugin and standalone app on Windows. The macOS version is in development.
