What the hell did HG Fortune put in his synths??????

    HG Fortune was NOT joking around with his synths. As soon as you open one up, and I really do mean AS SOON AS you open an HG Fortune synth, the most beautiful, lush pad plays in your life in a chord progression. All of this before the GUI even loads! Synths today are sterile, boring, too perfect. HG Fortune knew exactly what he was doing.

    The GUI finally loads, and now you see the source of the lush pad: there is a HYPER advanced sequencer. Even drum synthesizers today don't even dare to attempt to pretend to dream of it. You look at the oscillator section: these are NOT normal oscillators... they are GALACTIC oscillators. Synths today give you sterile, normal, boring EARTH oscillators. But HG Fortune? He shows you GALACTIC oscillators. Not oscillators that sound galactic, they are GALACTIC at the atomic, molecular level. HG Fortune regularly traveled in space to harvest these GALACTIC oscillators for us.

    Afterward, you press on some unassuming button and then all of a sudden: 3 XY modulators pop up. Also, there are several tens of LFOs. You nudge one of the dots, it does nothing. You move another, it sounds a bit darker. You slide another, the entire UNIVERSE of sound ecosystem CHANGES.

    These synths are no joke, they somehow NEVER sound bad. You always feel like a genius when operating the spaceship UI of HG Fortune. The sound ecosystem is more diverse than Earth's ecosystem without mass extinctions. The GALACTIC oscillators have traveled more than every single human combined. The synthesis used here is better than subtractive, additive and FM combined. Tone2, take notes.

    And then once you finally find the motivation to make an ambient track with HG Fortune synths, it DIES. Not crash, DIES. It DIES along with your DAW. That's because it's 32-bit and uses bridging to even FUNCTION in modern DAWs. But let's be honest, the real reason why your DAW crashes is that it can NOT handle GALACTIC oscillators.

    R.I.P. Günter Hager, he sacrificed himself for us to experience GALACTIC oscillators.

    hg fortune was an absolute legend.

    i still use his plugins after all these years. magical...if those kinds of sounds appeal to you, and they do to me.

    look for the ? button and have a seat for a while.

    His synths prove that while not the greatest UI designer, he was a sound designer extraordinaire. And yes, the UIs can be offputting especially by "modern" streamlined standards they do encourage experimentation to come up with a huge array of all sorts of magical atmospherics.
