I did tabs for a year. Killed all emotion. Worst thing ever.

Then i started walking. 10000 steps a day, at least. After a few months of that i started lifting. A few years on and I'm way more balanced than I've ever been before. Plus I'm buff. Every lift that was better than the one before is a positive reinforcement. I'm in constant competition with who i was yesterday. And I'm winning.

that's true. use the good times to write your songs in Major and the bad times for Minor. use what you've got. It was given to you by God anyway how can you refuse?

Very solid answers, but why nobody mentioned humor? BTW, I just learned today is:
    International Joke Day
To those about the joke, I salute you (you know who you are)

Firstly, I think you have already been given some terrific advice.

When you look after your fitness, whether it be controlled by brisk walks or healthy eating, your worries even for just a few seconds seem just that little bit less difficult to deal with.

For me? I had a VERY near death experience. One day I might even share that, but one thing that it does do is, it makes you realise how important it is to enjoy every aspect of your life you can, because it really can be taken away from you in the matter of seconds. To that end, I say to myself, as long as I have control of what happens to me, I wont let negativity rule me. That is how I stay positive throughout.
Whatever i cannot control, I refuse to let it.

I hope with all the info you have been given above, along with my little contribution. it really helps..

One other thing.. Everybody at some point in their lives needs someone to confide in.. If you don't have that, make it your number one goal.

    Good luck and G-d bless

Damn, that scene is legendary. Pesci gives legit bad vibes and you're like "oh man, the other guy's dead..."
To top it off I heard later he improvised that part. Wow.

Completely human condition given the world and times we live in. We are constantly bombarded with input from a myriad of sources and directions, and when the brain becomes used to this it becomes a cycle of dopamine release and depletion. I don’t believe we’re evolved to deal with the influx of never ending chaos fed to us thru our devices daily.

Everyone is different, but for me, it’s pouring those feelings out on music. Channel everything you’re feeling into music and release it. It’s an extremely cathartic feeling to not only release all of that pent up emotion, but to revel in the aftermath of what you’ve created, even if it’s for an audience of one. YOU!

First of all, I recognize my emotions are not "negative" - they are reflections of a physiological state.

If you're sad, sleep; if you're angry, eat. If you're confused, shower (or better yet: go swim in the ocean). It's not rocket science.

What is like rocket science is the degree of patience you must exercise for said emotions to fly away (all emotions are volatile).

There are other tools in the box, besides sleeping and eating. Some people have sex with a loved one; some have sex with a hated one.

And then there's yoga, meditation, pranayama, and vagus nerve (central nervous system) balancing. These are tools, not voodoo; there are books, teachers, YouTube tutorials, etc. Teachers are best, if available, but some people prefer to be hand held with podcasts and YouTube videos - whatever works.

But first, recognize the emotion and acknowledge it without judging it as "negative." That's pouring fuel on fire. No bueno.

I depends. If it is sadness you can become goth and lean heavily into it while listening to music in minor scales. (I enjoy the sadness a lot sometimes)
That of course is only possible as long the sadness has not fully blown out into a depression.
Thats where professional help is needed.
The others things like "I did/said a stupid thing and now I worry about the consequences" I manage by training myself to forget that / not think about it. Judging whether something will still be important in 5 years helps in that regard.

Now that I think about it, that seems a good solution too :)

The more interesting question to ask would be, "better for whom?"

Specifically, 15 years ago or 2011, other than general public ai assisted track stemming software, there's not been much innovation in audio - imho - just better execution/implementation. Some plugins have managed to become popular by virtue of doing what no analog devices could (or would), for instance, Soothe, and Split FX (also from Eventide: Temperance), and a handful of others. The quality of some pedals (whether from Europe, Japan, or 'Murica) also has gone NASA (to the moon and back), in comparison to their predecessors.

Generally speaking, things have gotten better for those of us who require better monitoring - we have not only much better monitors now but also room analysis and correction tools now that most of us can set up, and benefit from, and got worse for commercial studio owners (especially those in high rent urban environments such as L.A., NY, and London). I would list here all the (famed) recording facilities that have closed in the last 15 years (or months), but then I would need to get back on Xanax, and I don't want to do that.

Things have gotten a lot better for audio interfaces (across the entire price range spectrum), and digital recorders (handheld, foley, etc) - so that's a positive. DAWs are generally more stable (at least on Mac) than I remember them to be in the 90s and early aughts, although I'd be hard pressed to say if the flurry of ai and loop based features on offer from the top 5, have helped or held back music quality.

Ultimately, plugins are plugins - like AD/DA converters, coders are going to keep squeezing torque and horse power like Porsche and BMW engineers: incrementally, on a yearly basis. Very few of us drivers ever get to push our Porsches and BMWs to their full maximum potential, and the same goes for all the computing power (hardware and software) available to us in 2026.

There are some things worth noting, that have greatly improved our workflow in the last 15 years, besides AD/DA converters, monitors and room correction, virtual room headphone profiles, and great sounding pedals (a dream for us keyboard players: we can tweak them in real time, unlike guitarists). For instance, the Cranborne Audio R8 and its 500 ADAT expander, the whole SSL 360 and hardware controller ecosystem, the Wes Audio ngBusComp with plugin and total digital recall and automation. I like the direction these companies are headed: true hybrid workflow (something the Neve Genesys sort of pioneered - however modestly - in 2007, and further, later with the Genesys Black in 2014).

Mastering is another beast entirely - not exactly music production by definition - but I'm pretty sure there's not been anything truly 'revolutionary' since Reaper, the demise of SADiE, the stalling of Sequoia, and the merging (sorry, couldn't help myself) of Pyramix with Neumann (3 days ago at time of writing).

Hopefully, more analog hardware will follow in the footsteps of Wes Audio, more engineers will want to innovate or facilitate workflows like Cranborne Audio, Neve, and SSL (however incrementally - as they test waters), and more reliable (and lasting) controllers will be built and sold (and supported!) for decades to come.

The one thing that's definitely gotten worse in music production is built-in obsolescence - of products, but also of people. Not cool.
