I didn't say you are clueless, because most conspiracy theories have a least a few grains of truth to them. Anything you install can add services.
Just because you don't know what they are doesn't make them malware, adware, spyware, or anything of the sort. Normally, someone making the outlandish claims you have posted would be asked to provide proof, but I won't bother because I know you can't, with absolute certainty.

There is but you need an iLok dongle. You can then stop it from running and the plugins work fine. If you want updates, you'll need to re-enable it though. If you only use Internet authentication via iLok software without a dongle you are correct. It's not much different to the way Cubase legit, Studio One legit and ProTools legit work. They all need to authenticate time to time as do a large majority of apps now. I am not saying it's good but it is the way it is now.

for this scenario you need an ilok key...

I'm fighting this addon situation... because My usb port are for other use like intruments or drives or whatever except a dongle key that steels my port wihtout my consent

It'S like you want my laptop to get raped by friends of you know who lolz

In the past UAD used ilok cloud. Now machine bases auth. You can change to machine if you still have cloud. Once you have machine based you can be offline. Just tested. You get 3 auths per plugin, so can use them on 3 different machines. I have all their free plugins (only) and have no issues.

You're now trying to say you know what you are talking about re: the UAD client, but even your story is now drifting into tired old script kiddie BS. What's next, cracking your neighbors WEP? Yawn.

Preserving ports is fine but it is an EPROM that is not the culprit of what you speak. Software and ransomware does that. Every major studio in the world that uses ProTools and iLok applications would never let that level of privacy attack in.

All respect, I think a lot of people to settle it down a bit, as UAD Connect is easily blocked and worked around outside of install or updates (and lord knows they don't have many of those), and monitoring what they send to whatever degree during those processes hasn't been consequential, but I absolutely get not wanting any info shared etc.

But no, you don't need it to run your plugs (unless you are cloud based authorized (and in that case you probably have other problems you aren't considering...)), and while I'm no fan of iLok at all, it is what it is, and something I've had to deal with for over 20+ years. Gonna have a dongle anyways with controllers and interfaces and trackballs and hard drives even with a laptop or whatever.

I don't know or haven't heard about anyone getting in trouble with iLok for having, say, sister site plugs that were iLok defeated on their systems. Like Roland Cloud (which is far more active),... block it, and move on with life.

UAD, and I've been critical of them in the past, and pissed off at them for ripping me off on some stuff too tired to delineate/tl/dr on now... but it's no big deal. Looking at data transferred, they aren't taking our sounds/sessions/etc, at most perhaps instantiation rate, parameters accessed, and whatnot.

And sure, I could be wrong, but with my system shut down from sending them anything of consequence I know if, and having either machine authorized or hell, I "broke the bank" for purchasing an iLok dongle a few times over generations, ... and I don't like the idea of anyone sniffing anything, and that's why I'm OFFLINE while working, but I'm not seeing them sending voluminous amounts of data anywhere.

Again, I'm no genius on this, and of course want to stay informed, but when it goes from a "whistleblower" post with certain intentions to say about the company, cool, I get it, and will pay attention. And understand the conversation regarding it to some degree without question.

But when it just becomes a "I hate iLok because either I'm too cheap to spend the money to buy the dongle or don't like machine authorization (which all of mine support last I looked for the most part, and @clone 's screenshots confirmed from his side iirc)...

I just see a lot of handwringing and people who don't pay close attention or educate themselves as to how either to protect themselves and their systems, go commando with being online with stuff they know they probably shouldn't, and simply don't pay attention to detail.

If you won't use UAD because of either their HW or iLok restrictions, or don't like them period, cool. Your right to not do so.

I personally have gotten them cheap on sale, and I'm stuck with iLok regardless due to legit Soundtoys/Eventide/and many others, and there isn't any dancing around it, and if one usb port on a 5 port usb $7usd dongle is the cutoff for consideration, ... ok. That's your call.

Everyone is free to draw their own line in the sand. But it is what it is. And I try and buy the stuff I actually use and rely on, and that's not out of any nobility, so much as I'm often on the other side of it as well as a creator who gets paid for it once in awhile, and ripped off more than paid, and showing respect for the work done for tools I use and implement. If I'm lucky enough to make any money or get joy from their hard work, I don't mind showing reciprocity.

Sister site stuff has saved me a lot of good money versus a bad product in regards to "extended trials" or whatnot, and I appreciate that. And stuff that I will use once for one thing that there is no way I'm spending 4 figures on solving, as isn't my niche in that world... so it goes, and I appreciate the gestures, generosity, and time that people spend to allow me to do so.

And while I don't like the idea at all of UAD taking any data from any of us, or any dev for that matter... and I'm very much a privacy advocate,... this is just the beginning of the way things are lined up, and I think some people just need to spend a little more time understanding how to cover their 6 in a reasonable fashion, or feel free to deny the product/ecosystem, and get on with it.

(i used Waves before).. funny is you see often online on for example youtube or instagram sometimes the best producers or the well known many use.... UAD with the UAD sound interface. no i dont have a UAD sound interface but who knows might get one one day. they are quite good i think. until then..

Honestly @Kate Middleton , if you do not need unison input, there is absolutely nothing special about UAD interfaces at this point in time. Nothing better than a MOTU interface etc. If those are your needs, gotcha. If not, don't bother.
