    Hi everyone,

I’m getting the following macOS installer error when trying to install a Kontakt library from an ISO file which has a .pkg installer:

“The Installer could not install the software because there was no software found to install.”

This happens immediately after launching the macOS installer (.pkg) contained in the ISO.

    System details:

    • Mac: Apple Silicon (M1)

    • macOS: Tahoe 2.6.2
    Details of the issue:

    • The Kontakt library is distributed in ISO format

    • I can mount the ISO without any issues

    • Inside the ISO is a macOS installer package (.pkg)

    • When I run the installer, macOS reports that there is no software to install
    Additional context:

    • This same Kontakt library was previously installed and working correctly on an external hard drive that has since failed

    • I am now trying to install the library again on a new external drive

    • It seems possible that macOS or Native Instruments still believes the library is already installed, even though the original files no longer exist
    Things I’ve tried:

    • Re-mounting the ISO and re-running the installer

    • Using a different external drive

    • Checking file permissions

    • Inspecting the installer with Suspicious Package (it shows that the package does not actually install the library content directly)
    Questions:

    • Is this a known issue with older Kontakt library installers on newer versions of macOS / Apple Silicon?

    • Do some Kontakt libraries rely on legacy installers that no longer work on modern macOS?

Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

When you mount a disk image like .dmg or .iso, Suspicious Package can give you that error about not installing directly. But if you take the package file out or copy it, to desktop as example, then it may let you look inside the .pkg and export files from it.

I'm not on Tahoe or using Kontakt 8. My comment is only about Suspicious Package.

I've been trying to extract the pkg files using keka like some people used to do it with 7zip on windows, but it didn't budge. Like the old threads I read , I tried to open the pkg with Pacifist , still no result there as an error popped up saying "The software or file isn't found". Like clone said I opened the pkg file with suspicious package , skipped the review part tried to extract the Library Files , but then it said "The files are not installed by this package" .

Attached screenshots of the said library as well as the suspicious package application where the said pkg is loaded

I did extract the pkg file out and tried opening it from Suspicious Package app , then tried to export the folder with the library on and it shows this :

To work around this issue, I install the .exe file using CrossOver. Once the installation is complete, I locate the Kontakt library in the newly created Documents folder and move it to my preferred location. Finally, I use the Add Library application to add the library to Kontakt.

You're now asking about a different library, and different file type than the original poster. He had an ISO file, which is a disk image which you have to mount first. You have what is apparently 7 package installer files which are just for the installation of the library, and then an installer.

You're trying to install a library that was released for Kontakt 5, in 2015.

    Details:

    AT A GLANCE: UNA CORDA

    Product type: KOMPLETE Instrument
Number of sounds: 100 Snapshots, 3 NKIs
For use with: Free KONTAKT 5 PLAYER (included in free KOMPLETE PLAYERS), or KONTAKT 5
    Sound Category: Prepared Piano
    Size: 10 GB
System requirements FREE KONTAKT 5 PLAYER or KONTAKT 5 (version 5.5.1 or higher)
Please also see the KONTAKT 5 PLAYER system requirements and the KONTAKT 5 PLAYER FAQ

Instructions: Unzip and run the setup, load library in unlocked Kontakt 5.5.1

When Kontakt shows “Not installed” but the library clearly exists on disk, it’s almost never about the audio files or Kontakt 8 itself. It’s a catalog/registration layer problem sitting above Kontakt.

So you’ve basically got two systems that can disagree:
    • Kontakt engine → “Can I load and play these samples if you point me at them?” → usually yes
    • Native Access / library database → “Is this officially installed and registered in my system?” → often no, especially with older or migrated libraries
You can get it to work, but this had nothing to do with my comment above that SP "may" let you extract files from the .pkg file copied off an ISO.

A workaround we used to use back in the Kontakt 6 days, was to keep a K5 version around to use for installing these. At some point around then, Kitty Scripts were shared, and people mostly just used those.

Thank you for your insight on this , so the workaround is either :

    - Install Kontakt 5 on Mac (Keeping an install on the OS ?)
    or
    - Use Kitty Scripts (Don't know the exact way to use or get my hands on)

I don't like to install Kontakt 5 on my system since I thought the new version of Kontakt would load older libraries
I tried googling or using the search function on the forum to look into said "Kitty Scripts" But I couldn't understand how to apply or use it .

I do apologize for my impudence , if any for raising a doubt regarding this on this thread..

And I do genuinely appreciate the feedback you have given. Thank you
