Robert "Bobby" Caskin Prince III (born March 12, 1945, in Madison, Indiana; died June 16, 2026) was an American composer of video game soundtracks.

During the 1990s, he worked primarily for id Software and Apogee/3D Realms, creating music and sound effects for *Commander Keen 4–6*, *Catacomb 3D*, *Wolfenstein 3D*, *Spear of Destiny*, *Doom*, *Rise of the Triad*, *Doom II: Hell on Earth*, *Duke Nukem II*, and *Duke Nukem 3D*, among other games.

Prince attended the University of Georgia, graduating in 1966 with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. He continued his studies at the university for a short time before joining the Army. Upon his return, he earned a doctorate in psychology in 1972 and began studying law, eventually obtaining a law degree. He worked as a lawyer for a long time while also exploring MIDI music on the side, collaborating with his brother using software like Cakewalk and Texture.

Unexpectedly, Robert received an offer from Scott Miller (Apogee Software), who hired him on the spot. A few months later, John Romero—representing the then-small software developer id Software—hired him as well.

Individual tracks from games like *Doom* or *Duke Nukem* often bear a resemblance to hard rock and metal songs popular at the time—such as those by Pantera ("Mouth for War," "Rise"), Alice in Chains ("Them Bones"), Metallica ("Master of Puppets"), or Slayer ("Behind the Crooked Cross"). Robert Prince understood just how closely melodies could mirror their source material without resulting in copyright infringement. Indeed, none of the sampled bands ever took legal action; conversely, the band Megadeth later even covered the *Duke Nukem 3D* theme song.
