Yes, that’s how I would do it, especially since you received that error regarding the .dll file—something I couldn't explain either.

Sometimes R2R setups don't work—or run into errors—on certain Windows PCs, and the josenacha version provides a solution in those cases.

spasmodic, you've got TWO people here telling you we've each recently installed v3 WITHOUT installing v2, and you've got the R2R instructions telling you to REMOVE v2 BEFORE you try installing v3 - I do not understand why you keep following bad guidance saying you MUST install v2 before installing v3 because it's an upgrade, when that absolutely is not the case.

I do hope you eventually get it working, but it's hard watching you follow bad advice, manually copying VST3 files and DLLs and flailing about when none of that is necessarily if you start with a clean system. Wipe all traces of Omnisphere from your system, reboot, and follow the R2R steps. You can do this, I believe in you.

Sorry everyone, something really went wrong there. I read somewhere that you need version 2 to install version 3, but I can't find that information again; according to current findings, that information is incorrect.

Thanks to @ToddlerTN and @Sweatypits for sharing your experiences and setting the record straight.

So I installed v2.8.7 and successfully activated it.
I then copied omnisphere.dll and omnisphere.vst3 from "Spectrasonics.Omnisphere.v2.8.7c.Patched.josenacha.No.Bank.Install.Warning" over the existing files in C:\ProgramData\Spectrasonics\plug-ins\64bit.

I then ran the installer from Spectrasonics.Omnisphere.v3.0.2c.Incl.Patched.and.Keygen-R2R (Setup Omnisphere v3.0.2c.exe). I selected to install only the standalon app and the VST3. The installation completed in a few seconds.
I then tried to run the standalone app and got the same error:
"Cannot find Omnisphere DLL at: c:/ProgramData/Spectrasonics/plug-ins/64bit/Omnis...
Reinstalling Omnisphere may resolve this issue."
    ???

I also tried installing this on a clean system (with Omnisphere never having been installed before) - v3.0.2c.Incl.Patched.and.Keygen-R2R - and got the same error when I ran the standalone app:
"Cannot find Omnisphere DLL at: c:/ProgramData/Spectrasonics/plug-ins/64bit/Omnis...
Reinstalling Omnisphere may resolve this issue."

OK I think I may have a clue as to what the problem is. But I don't know how to resolve it.
I have been monitoring where the Omnisphere installer creates its files, and it is placing the Omnispshere.dll and FX-Omnisphere.dll files in:
    c:\Program Files\Cakewalk\VstPlugins\Spectrasonics

When I run the Omnisphere standalone app it is expecting to find omnisphere.dll somewhere in c:/ProgramData/Spectrasonics/plug-ins/64bit/Omnis... (the error message doesn't say exactly where).

Is it as simple as copying the DLL to the correct path and if so, can anyone complete the full path for me?

EDIT: If I explicitly tell the installer to put the VST2 Plugin (64bit) in C:\ProgramData\Spectrasonics\plug-ins\64bit it does create two DLL's and a VST3 file in that folder, but I still get the same error when I run the Omnisphere app

    Hidden Folder:

    C:\ProgramData\Spectrasonics\plug-ins\64bit

    C:\Program Files\VSTPlugins
    C:\Program Files\Steinberg\Vstplugins
    C:\Program Files (x86)\VSTPlugins

Thanks for that. So I copied the DLL's to all of those locations but I still get the same error:

I suspect Cakewalk is taking the liberty of overwriting the installation path in your registry; this happens occasionally
with some Cakewalk versions—it's a known issue. Exactly where to check is described here:
es, a leftover registry setting is often the cause, but it's not always a Spectrasonics-specific setting. Many VST2 installers look up a "default VST plug-in folder" from Windows registry entries.

    Check these registry locations
    1. Press Win + R, type regedit, and open the Registry Editor.
    2. Look for values such as:
      • VSTPluginsPath
      • VSTPluginsDir
    Common locations:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\VST

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\VST

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\VST

If you find a value pointing to:

    C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\VstPlugins

    change it to:

    C:\Steinberg\VstPlugins

    Also check Cakewalk registry keys
If Cakewalk was previously installed, some installers may read its VST path. Search the registry for:

    Cakewalk

    and look for entries containing:

    VSTPluginsPath

or the old Cakewalk folder path.

    Search the registry directly
    In Registry Editor:

    • Edit → Find
    • Search for:

    C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\VstPlugins

Any VST-related path entries you find can be updated to your Steinberg folder.

    Before changing anything
Export a backup of any key you modify:

    • Right-click the key → Export
    Another possibility
Some Spectrasonics installers remember the last path used in their own configuration files rather than the registry. If changing the registry doesn't help, tell me:

    • Which Spectrasonics product (Omnisphere, Keyscape, Trilian, etc.)
    • Windows version
    • Whether Cakewalk is still installed
and I can help identify the exact setting Spectrasonics is likely reading.
If that doesn't work, you should completely delete Omnisphere (all folders and data) and reinstall it.
