dude you are naive ,and again i dont say he is bad but putting 3000% schnap on a styropor kegel or tube or ...is a bit much....

I found a lot of relief by switching to meditation and focusing on mindful breathing
It helps reduce tension and stress, which might help with pain management

sorry for not a chair recc, but occasional use of an inversion table has solved many back/spinal issues for my family. This here is a desk to height calculator. once I was within range some of my issues faded. https://www.inchcalculator.com/desk-height-calculator/ Also a logi Ergo mouse helped a ton for hand/forearm issues.

Is there any chance a surgery would help?
Sure as a last resort, but given what you already do and take upon you to make the pain bareable I'd say you are in the last resort area.
    Would your ensurance cover?

If there's no genetic or medical condition causing it then The Alexander Technique will remedy it. Period. End of.

I would NEVER RECCOMEND SURGRY, as operations are more often than not botched and removing a vertebra to 'cure' back pain is asking for trouble.

The pain usually, probably stems from bad posture, just need to correct that, that is exactly what the Technique does, it will improve your quality of life too.

    I'm speaking empirically.

For now, sit with an upright posture, no, don't hold your self up, just don't slouch, and when sitting, bend from your waist/hips, not stomach or chest.

It's just a matter of reminding yourself as you slump again and correct it 'til it becomes your NEW HABIT, as old habits die hard.

It's doable but only you can do it, alone or with help, no need to suffer.

I'd suggest to stop looking for a magical chair and just get a couple of removable memory foam pillows for the back, this way the chair will be adjusting to your most comfortable posture, not the other way around. Helped me at least.

Assuming no injury/illness as the cause => 9 months of building core muscle strength is a game changer. It cannot be overstated how much strength training improves quality of life for those with pains (and everyone else too for that matter).

You would be better off doing Tai Chi—specifically without using force—as it is easier on the joints than strength training.

Sorry for your pain. I too am a sufferer. Nobody seems to have asked how much you weigh. If you are fat which sounds unlikely on your diet, but if you are, get down to something reasonable for your build and take the strain off your body even when sitting. If you are trim and taught, I can only say that i just get up a lot, make some tea, have a pee, listen to the mix away from the monitors etc and I take pain killers that actually work.....a lot don't.

I agree. Surgery, for this kind of problems, can be efficient. I read somewhere that Jean-Claude Van Damme got a new life from surgery.

My man... I have had the exact same problems, years ago. I stupidly was the anchor moving up my piano up a flight of stairs (when I lived in NY), and the next day and for a good couple of weeks, I was walking like a 95 year old (very slowly, very much in pain, and holding on to a colleague of mine who came to walk with me) on my way to work. I lived in Soho then, and worked in Tribeca, so a 10 mn walk took me about 35-40 mn.

Then, at work, it was exactly as you say: sitting hurt after 30-40 mn, and standing hurt after 30-40 mn. No chair helped (and I had many high end chairs to pick from - everyone volunteered theirs).

Eventually, acupuncture and yoga (specifically iyengar yoga - designed for alignment, not acrobatics like the yoga I practice now) helped - greatly - still, for 3 years after that piano moving injury, once a year my back gave out. I was lucky that work took me to Asia - I was based and lived in Singapore for a year, but flew all over Asia (well, from India to Japan, including Malaysia, China, Taiwan, Korea, etc).

It's in Malaysia that I heard about a great healer-chiropractor, Master Chris Leong (don't take my word for it: check out his social media); in Bali that I heard about another (retired since Covid); and in Hong Kong finally that I visited a great, retired Kung-Fu master, who also healed such injuries (including muscular neuralgia, tendinitis, etc).

My point being, short of getting you on a plane to Malaysia to see Chris Leong, all I can do to help is recommend acupuncture and yoga - and no alcohol, no spices, no garlic or onions, no vinegar, no kimchi, no beef, and plenty of watermelon, carrots, cucumbers, beets, etc.

As for chairs, most studio cats I know swear by the Carl Tatz Design Stealth Phantom focus E chair. I'm 6'2" and middle aged, but the regular size chair suits me fine. If you're a larger size dude or dudette, there's a larger size ("Large Seat") available for $80 extra.

They also make a "Master Engineer Series" chair that was a TEC nominee - first time I've heard of a chair being nominated.

The most important thing is your healing - no chair can help - and then comes prevention; a good chair is paramount.

Good luck and good health to you mate!

[EDIT: Mix Magazine Review 1 - also, Alan Parsons too got his]

Musicians are usually aware that there is such a thing as muscle memory, same thing is happening here, except for the first one, their memory is out of sync with their body and pain is often the result

I've have nothing to gain by giving you this info, you have plenty, especially if you have pain that stems from posture as The Alexander Technique can banish or improve it. Period.
