The same could be applied to their music engine. If they wanted, they could have hired musicians instead of scrapping streaming songs to train it. But we all know how it started and where it ended.

This is exactly how eleven labs does it. Hires musicians to make their music model. It also sounds pretty unique due to it having custom data. Its still a lil sterile but getting there.

fully agree every company scrapes user data. Malice can be part of it, but also product improvement can as well. Im part of the ableton beta program and they told me years ago that they figured out how to get the click rate down on certain tasks due to the data collected.

Well, there's no clear equivalent of male waifu in Japanese, so english-speaking people made that up.

A funny thing is in Japan they consider cool to throw English words in a sentence, which is cringe. That's called Engrish.
And like you mentioned in Japanese certain phonemes/orthography rules are so hard they use it with English even knowing it's wrong. That's why they called it "husband-o"
Happens specially with words ending in "t". If you ask for "toilet?" in a Japanese restaurant nobody would understand. But if you ask "toilet-o?" many will.

Ah, Japan... wait, what was the topic again? :dunno::rofl:

Waifu and hazubando are the japanese transliterations of the english terms wife and husband.

Because all loanwords in Japanese are written in katakana, and katakana is a syllabary where consonants cannot exist without an attached vowel (with the exception of n), u is appended to all consonants except n. The exceptions to this rule are the consonants d and t, to which an o is attached instead. And since there is no L sound in japanese, it always becomes ra, ri, ru, re or ro.

Therefore, when Japanese people write english words using katakana, wife becomes waifu and husband becomes hazubando or hasubando (depending on whether the person pronounces the s as voiced or voiceless).

The topic? Yeah, um... something about DAW, UA, and psychosis, I think. :bleh:

It took a long time before I realised that 'gyaru' was imported from 'girl' and not some native word made up by JP teenagers.

I completely forgot about the Volt stuff. Honestly, it's even worse than the entry-level Focusrite Scarlett interfaces.

Apollo was/is better than the Volt series, but still ass...

Well, to each is own. Personally after having used the plugs on uad-1, what ones I could get running at a time, they were top notch. Better than anything out there. Especially in regard to how closely they resemble the original hardware that they are supposed to be emulating. As far as the audio industry goes as a whole, most of the natives are the gold standard by which other plugs of the same ilk are measured. I agree with this. What I don't agree with is the all the double sticky red tape one has to endure in order to use them "legit" wise... Even their so called "freebies" are shit in that regard. Hence, unless/until they are cracked I wont touch em...

The page in the UA official forum had been deleted when I clicked on it 2-3 days ago. Is there, is that another thread you're referring to?

EDIT: I found this (all comments since locked).

If you believe UAD is stealing data to feed AI Junk you're neurotic
If you believe UAD is betraying music to feed an system that is going to kill art and any human expression you're psychotic

There are some perverts as well, and you can be more than one at once. Oh yes, there are those who stack uncleared samples on their songs because we all are going to die, have 5 disks filled with warez and 3 compressors on the stereo bus; those are the happy ones.

I almost asked who actually clears samples in 2026, that can either afford to or be bothered to. Usually they are mangled beyond recognition anyway. But is this like a thing in "pop" music again now? David Guetta has turned into some kind of cover version karaoke machine, Rihanna's 20 producers sampling Soft Cell, or Doechii's producers sampling songs that sampled other songs; "cleared" samples now only successfully make radio junk sound even more dated than being just rehashed ideas in absence of no ideas. From "artists" with all the resources in the world available to them...

If people read enough they may find that many of the plugins, Manley and Neve to name but two, that were authorized by the original manufacturer to the point of being given the schematics which they reproduced in plugin form.
It doesn't necessarily aid or negate anyone's choices or arguments, but it definitely dispels any disinformation. You like them or you do not.
Disliking because of iLok is not a valid argument for their quality either, only their choice of distribution.
As for the A.I, it's here to stay. They will either do crap things with it or the opposite.

Rather sad about UA (and UREI) as a company which started out as a completely legit audio electronic engineering firm that brought so many ground breaking and innovative professional audio processing devices to life in the 50's, 60's, 70's, and 80's. The sheer number of game changing engineering patents held by the company from those early years was staggering.

With advent of the digital audio age however, UA devolved into a sick and twisted capitalist piece of dogshit. Not sure the how, why and wherefore of it all but it's certainly true on any account. One doesn't have to read confessions or work at the place to know this. These concepts are easily understood from the standpoint of an end user.

^ Crying about stuff you want but don't want to pay for is what sucks. If you don't have the money or want to part with it if you do, that is understandable and a choice everyone makes. Unfortunately, it is pathetic. Crying about UAD like you do reminds me of your very first post on here, crying and using profanity up and down about the free hosting servers Audioz uploaders were using. Next, it was you crying about having to pay for Debrid or other premium hosting service to get files you wanted because you couldn't figure out how to do it for free. Accusations of Audioz "selling warez".... on and on.

It's pathetic. Nobody owes you anything, and the money is all you are really crying about. Meanwhile, the issue you probably never see is that complaining and bitching like this actually stops certain releases from happening.

Fully agree. Any technological leap there will be HUMANS hacking with it, stealing with it, doing malice with it. There will also people who use it in new ways to advance culture. Those who dive deeper with the tools can see the advantages as a whole. There is aways more under the surface.
