I have done many projects in R12 (with both the standalone and plugin versions), but now I have been thinking about how I will open these projects in the future because looks like the R12-R2R version can't open legit version projects and viceversa, and I don't know if R2R will ever release a tool or a new Reason version that can open R2R project files.

I think I remember R2R included a especial binary program in the very first 12.2.0. version that can convert the R2R files to legit ones, but since I don't have a legit version yet then I can't test the tool and can't see if the legit Reason can open those converted files.

So, has anybody checked this? or have you found another solution?

We recommend you to keep original files, instead of overwriting.
Now your project files are legit version ready.

I tried all the things following their instructions closely but I never succeeded once.

IIRC, Reason stopped decrypting project files with Reason v12.7.

 

That's unfortunate.

I was thinking that maybe it only worked with old legit versions? In this case maybe only with the version 12.2.0 , which means that would need to find a way to get a legit 12.2.0 version so maybe it could work, and then those project can be opened in newer versions such as 13 & 14.

 

So I verified it myself too, and indeed, the binaries provided by R2R don't work.

I saved a project with R12.5 from R2R, then I installed the 12.2 version of R2R. If I open the project then it loads correctly.

Then I swap the .exe file by the one provided by R2R in the "R2R to Legit" folder. But it doesn't open, it says "File has bad format":



Then I tried with the .exe file from the "Legit to R2R" folder, just to see what happens, and it asks for a legit Reason user (that I don't have yet):

I clicked on the Demo Version too but says "Could not find the Authorizer file. The utility Authorizer could not be found. Please reinstall Reason to fix the problem."

So then I thought, well maybe I first have to save the project file with the R12.2 version of R2R, so I opened it and saved it so now the file is encrypted with the 12.2 version.

Now I try again, swapping the exe files, but once again it doesn't work:


We can confirm, Reason project files saved with R2R version can not be converted/encrypted to legit so far, so I hope that R2R or any other team can fix it in a future crack version.

So users of a cracked Reason 11/12 can't switch to legit Reason without losing all their work. Fantastic, their copy protection works so well, it actually motivates people to never ever buy a legit license.

Maybe those special R2R exes succesfully load projects from the other side when the project has been created with either v12.2 cracked or legit. I think you tested a file created with 12.5?

 

I also made a project with the 12.2.0 version of R2R, but it also doesn't work when swapping the .exe files again. So yeah, this not only affects to music projects created in the Reason DAW but it also affects project files made in other DAWs that uses the Reason Rack Plugin VST.
