How can I properly run the R2R system and apply their work on a Mac?
I understand that not all of their releases may be compatible, but I’d like to give it a try.

I’d be glad to hear about forum members’ experiences with this question

Read the information included in the iamdumb release of the Voxengo Premium Plugins. It involves using Parallels Desktop. Also, it seems there is some patching needed to be done or you'd see more stuff released that way. Maybe that Voxengo release is more Proof Of Concept than just "here are some plugins", but I did not actually try that install, since I have just never been a heavy Voxengo plugin user anyway.

The easier solution for me to all this stuff has been an average-only spec Windows laptop, an ethernet cable, and Audiogridder. But with the new M4 now, I am looking at my old 2010 Mac Pro tower that has SSD drives in it and 128gb RAM, I am considering installing Windows on that via BootCamp and calling it a day. It will make a great plugin server using Audiogridder for Windows stuff I don't actually need to begin with.

R2R literally create new altered versions of Windows system DLLs, and patch the plugins to call those instead of the Windows components, so they can change how the system reacts to system calls.

No way this is going to work on Mac unless R2R completely engineer their whole setup for the Mac, which doesn't look likely given their stance on Mac stuff.

Of course, some R2R releases that are only minorly modified can be ported to Mac (I did one recently for my own use), and unpatched true keygens will usually work, but anything that requires some more specific modified interaction between the software and the system is just not going to happen - you're better off requesting a Mac-specific release, rather than trying to port R2R's solution in these cases (which in many cases is still doable).

Audiogridder with 2nd laptop/desktop running windows, thats how i run the r2r stuff on mac.

Windows as a virtual machine eats resources even on an m-series processor and is a pita.

Wine does not work with many plugins properly and audiogridder you have to play double click as fast as you can to get the plugins window to appear. Its just not worth the hastle.

Yes, but if you understand the reason it was made, it was to fix a technical problem running the latest format R2R keygens on Mac. It doesn't replace, fix or implement the whole R2R system thing.

i misread the question, well r2r system is just their sdk so they can make releases faster, porting it to mac will not magically make windows plugins work on mac or whatever

One of the first System-related releases was a network block dll, and then another was some kind of Windows Defender bypass.

Is there some reason already known about which prevents installing the entire thing into it's own Crossover bottle, with the Audiogridder server, the MS Visual Studio Runtimes, etc. all right into the bottle ala Crossgridder sort of situation? I haven't looked because honestly, the things I would really like to try, or actually make use of are mostly Synth plugins or sample-based; so the latency running Audiogridder plugins that way is not that appealing compared with a second machine and Logic latency compensation taking care of the returning audio when only using effects plugins. We already have so many great tools available on ARM anyway. :winker:
