Saw a new mixer from superbooth and was wondering if you could plug the audio output of a module into another device like a dedicated mixer/audio interface? Or is there a conversion needed like you need a certain cable that has a patch cable end and a regular audio jack cable on the other, or a box to convert the audio out from the module into standard audio that might not be considered a cv source for a module that accepts audio in? If I could use a dedicated mixer, then what are some suggestions for a good size for a really big rack full of modules or a good dedicated audio interface module to plug directly if I can use something like an expert sleepers module instead?

 

You absolutely can, but it's worth noting that modular runs quite hot so it's possible you'll clip the input stage on your mixer/interface. Obviously worth turning your monitors down before experimenting with new sound sources and, if possible, run some attenuation (especially if you're working with something that produces a lot of DC at high volume).

EDIT: I should specify that there is no conversion needed. Modular signals are no different from other audio signals, but they are usually higher amplitude. As for mixer/interface recs: that really comes down to what you personally want from your interface, how you like to record and mix, etc. I'm currently sending my modular into a cheapo Behringer Xenyx mixer, which works fine but only provides a stereo interface. If you have a big modular and want to be able to track and mix individual channels in-the-box or send/receive DC signals, I've heard good things about Arturia's line of audio interfaces! If you just need a shit load of DC-capable I/O on the cheap, the RME Digiface with a couple breakout boxes is the most cost-effective way AFAIK

Ok thanks, I will definitely consider a standalone mixer… guess the only thing that needs attention is turning the signals down, but I would imagine a mixer will have a master stereo out etc, I could turn that down and adjust levels separately accordingly, plus I would imagine the outputs of a metamodule are quieter because any oscillator or audio signal goes into an internal mixer module that can lower the volume before going to hardware audio in
