I'm struggling to make trance recently. Despite owning ALL samples in the world that allow me to make a good track making hi-hat sequences from scratch is very tiring and it disencourages me from further work.

Are there any good hi-hats from/releases from sister site worth downloading?

just places hihat patterns by mouse, program it yourself, no loops.

i usually select one shots into a another folder, which i really like at the moment and then i start building with that. Otherwise its just to many choices.

i doubt hihat loops will spark some deep inspiration.

maybe try to ask chatgpt or whatever AI bot to give you a random chord progression, experiment with that, play it, reshuffle it, try different voicings, etc

Hmmmm... Hi-hats loops... I never found any loop interesting enough, sometimes I used them to go faster but they're really no big deal, they could be a pain in the ass to program, but actually, they're not difficult. All you have to do is to play with velocity to make them "dance" and flow...

Have a look at this (she's a quite good teacher for electronic music, maybe the music she's making would not fit your tastes but she has a real good channel with lots of good tricks and techniques to learn from):

    Here, another one, more in-depth

    And another tutorial...

    Hope this helps!

lmfao this is so so so true. Nearly everything could fall under the genre now adays with the exception of Dubstep and its own billion genres that also have subs to them haha.

I feel like if your going to try to sequence all of your hi hat then its going to drain all your potential energy towards your song. I wouldn't say they are that important as in Dubstep, Mid Tempo, Hybrid Trap or anything like that. Im sure there are are loops out there that you could just fiddle with enough time stretch and cut up that will do the trick for you.

If you guys are really trying to preserve transients and top end, "perfect" hats samples, letting loops be warped or "time stretched" isn't going to help do that. You're better off doing what @artcistorm mentioned and just making individual hits from a loop, or at least slicing the loop directly in the DAW channel or sampler, so you are moving audio events cleanly instead of letting your DAW/sampler stretch or warp any of it. It's no less "extra work" auditioning a bunch of samples.

If I was up against it for hi hat creativity I would feed a note into RandARP and send the MIDI that comes out to a velocity sensitive hihat sound generator. RandARP kicks ass and is free.
