I'm planning on getting a two bay nvme toaster. Easy plug and play and on/off switch. No fuss. Not going to bother with nas software and problems. Just pop the nvme in the toaster, do what I need to do and switch off. Done with nas and it's problems (and spin drives. oh God do I hate spin drives!).

Could you please clarify your question and formulate it in a complete sentence? Also, what kind of PC or laptop do you have?
What ports does it have? What motherboard does it have?

A MS-Win laptop (or Linux if I'm adventurous - newB).
NUCs are attractive for me, several USB2-3 ports, can maybe run headless (no display monitor) and run backup drive image software.

I just need redundancy to not have many eggs in a single basket.

Hi @Dalmation, the best solution is to have a fully functional second PC so you can search for help online or order spare parts. I would suggest looking at used, older gaming PCs on eBay. You can get a fast CPU and enough RAM; you'd just need to buy a 23-inch monitor, mouse, and keyboard.
