    Hi everybody,

I set up Kontakt 8 v8.8.1-bobdule on a Win11 machine. It works great.

This version also came with Kontakt Library Tools. It has Nicnt Maker and Nicnt Maker 2. I tried both. I also tried Nicnt Generator 2.1x64-TRACER.

    This is the workflow:

    1) copy Nicnt Maker (or NICNTGENERATOR) into root folder of the library I want to create an nicnt of
    2) run it
    3) set SNPID (previously assuring that this SNPID is not currently in use)
    4) GENERATE

It will then create an nicnt file in the root folder, as well as a corresponding xml file in Common Files\Native Instruments\Service Center.

I would then either run Add Library (when using Kontakt Library Tools) or AddLib64Kontakt.exe (when using NICNTGENERATOR). Then I would run JSON Cleaner from KLT. Finally, I would restart Kontakt.

During the process, it would sometimes ask whether I would like to generate a wallpaper, which I do.

EXPECTATION: after creating this nicnt file, the library would be available directly via Kontakt UI without manually having to load it (correct?).

RESULT: I don't see the newly added instrument(s). I can still manually load them, but creating the nicnt did not seem to do anything at all.

Exception: I believe it worked once, but while it didn't generate a specific entry for the company, it did list one instrument under KONTAKT (which is a library within Kontakt with manual libraries, I suppose). I cannot say for sure whether this worked, because I did not check this KONTAKT section beforehand; but when I searched for the custom library by name, it showed up there. However, the next library I tested did not only not show up under KONTAKT, it did not show up anywhere at all. It was not found when searching for the name I assigned it.

Can you please help me figure this out? Most of the libraries I use do not have an nicnt file, and while it is fine to manually load them theoretically, it would be much much more helpful to access them directly through Kontakt, so that one could favorite certain instruments etc.

Am I doing something wrong? Am I missing something? The NICNTGENERATOR came with a short tutorial video, which I followed, but neither it, nor the KLT version, seems to work for me at the moment.

Thanks in advance for your help :)

    anybody? @bobdule ?
I currently have more libraries in Kontakt that I need to manually load than those that are displayed natively. This is okay as those libs still work, but it would be mich nicer to create nicnts as this seems to be common practice..?

I have never used the NICT approach mentioned above. I have always used this other tool instead, which seems to have been forgotten by many people over time. I am not sure why — perhaps some users had bad experiences with it — but I personally have not had any issues with it at all. It is a very easy way to create a NICT file, and adding the Kontakt library with Bobdule has always worked without problems for me. You will, however, need to create your own custom image packages.

Thank you. I believe this worked well.

However, an instrument I tested was not integrated by the name I chose, instead it was put under some similar name under the KONTAKT instrument (so INSIDE Kontakt, where I can pick a library, there was already this library ALSO NAMED Kontakt. And the library I added via KLC was inside the "Kontakt category").

This is "enough", as in I can favorite the library/instrument and don't have to manually load it. But I've watched videos on KLC and in those, the libraries were added as individual libraries, NOT as sub-instruments within this "Kontakt" library.

(Sorry, this is confusing. When I say "Kontakt library", I mean an library NAMED / LISTED AS Kontakt within the program Kontakt)

If you have not already done that, try vkDanilovs portable Kontakt. It has the best way to manage libraries, period. If you like adding non nicnt libs, try this. In the portable librart manager, you just add the folder and you can then add a wallpaper. Also sorting your libs is brillant. I am using portable for years now without any issues. And the great thing is if for whatever reason, you or I want to use the normal (cracked) Kontakt, just remove the prtable from the vst3 folder and add bobs or r2r's version. Everything will load.

I had not tried that yet, thanks for the tip :)

Sorry, I'm also quite new to this all... but do I understand correctly, that I could keep the "regular" Kontakt, install the portable, and use both / just mess with the vst3 folder to switch between them? No need to uninstall regular Kontakt, no interference (except for changing vsts)?

Until now, I've always worked with virtual machines and could easily revert pretty much anything. Now that I am running on bare metal, I'm afraid to break something because setting things up took a while and I cannot simply jump back in time. But if this works, I might use that version instead.

Yes only need to take care of wich one is in the vst3 folder. I just rename them in the folder, like Kontakt8.vst3no or Kontakt8.vst3bak.You can start both as standalone, exe. Just intall it and try adding a few libraries and or folders and see how you like it. Also there is no need to register libraries like with normal kontakt. The portable library manager takes care of it all.

Okay, so I've installed Kontakt Portable 8. Library Manager discovered all my libraries from default Kontakt, but I also manually put a library in the corresponding folder.

While Library Manager displays all libraries now, Kontakt Portable does not. I tried toggling them via "Show", but it did not make a difference.

All README info was in Cyrillic. I was testing with standalone Kontakt Portable, as I did not want to mess with my working setup until verifying that everything worked as expected. Did I miss an important step, or might my setup just be messed up at some point?

I am using Windows 11 on a ThinkStation PC. The device does not have any network access (other than a direct ethernet link to my default linux PC for exchanging libraries and project data).

Are you in kontakt classic view, they shouldbe there. If you want/use the new browser you need to tick a box in the library manager options (right bottom). The second options tab, libraries , tick "manage libraries in nks browser".

Yeah, that's the trick. You can switch to classic view (F10) or tick that setting. For me, the NKS browser is handy for quick listens to sounds, but i still prefer the classic view.

With Tracer's 2.1 tool it's pretty simple. The tool will also make some additions to the system to prepare for the addition of the new library
    - You have the target library in its own folder. DO NOT CHANGE THE ROOT FOLDER NAME.
    - you have gone to the thread here with all the kontakt wallpapers and found the proper one for the job and DL'ed it to the library's root dir. (you never need to make the tool do wallpaper)
    - DL the latest nativeaccess.xml before proceeding any further and place it correctly on the system (C:\Program Files\Common Files\Native Instruments\Service Center).
    - run tracer's tool
    - carefully put in the name of the library and the dev.
    - select and verify the SNPID your going to use and make certain it is not duping one already used
    - GENERATE the NICNT, (no need for wallpaper) and have the tool place it into the root dir of the target library
    - verify the new NICNT file is indeed where it's supposed to be
    - fire up Kontakt and use the "add library tool" to point to the new library root folder and add
    - restart Kontakt and set the browser for classic view.
    - new library should be there and waiting. That is assuming it was properly released in the first place and there are no problems with it.

You dont need much else other than BobD's FULL version of Kontakt. The version really shouldn't matter much as long as the add library function works in the version you use.
