it seems like its fun to use.. but when i think everything can be done and edited inside the DAW mostly.. why do we need this?

If you're asking yourself why you need it, you certainly won't become an MPC customer. Actually, you don't really need any analog equipment besides a MIDI keyboard, PC, LED monitor, and studio monitors or headphones. However, true beat and rhythm producers swear by the MPC; many hits and the music they listen to were made with it.

Kate, people will always have different workflows or different ways of doing things.
So do you need it? You would probably already know if you do
For the type of music I'm into not really my thing, but if it works for others all good

I think you don't. Now I can have an MPC2000 in VST or in MAME. I boot it up. And I don't understand a damm thing. Why should I force myself through a learning curve for something that is just 'different'. But maybe I am missing something. I don't want to learn this.

MAME is the 3000 I guess. I have only booted it up, not used.

I think it's of an era. Biggi Viera and Bon Harris use it as the heart of their live acts. I think it was just of the times. Necessary at a certain time.

I got an AKAI pad thing, send that to wherever on this

I have the Akai MPC keys and have pretty much tried all the groveboxes from the 90s and 00s .. and no they dont really offer anything special that you neeed to have. And i know there is a lot of people that used the MPC back in the day, but a lot of people also used the Ensoniq ASR or other Ensoniq samplers that was in no way very grooveboxy. They used what was avalible. And i like sitting in the couch with my MPC Keys sometimes and start out a few ideas, but its not faster then my DAW or better.

This small MPC Sample has no interrest for me because it adds nothing to the table. If i did not have the MPC Keys then perhaps, but really it has no keys, so you cant play on it, and then how handy is it really? .. If you just want to tap pads and trigger samples then hey be my guest but for me that gets limiting very very fast. And also i have a laptop with Renoise on it if that is the kind of thing i am after, then i can chop and mess with samples in a portable device with a much better screen and more effects and more tracks and more of everything.

But a friend of mine just bought his... he has his MPC2500 and love the old school workflow, so for him its perfect. It gives him what he has a bit more limited but in a small battery friendly form factor.

They say it uses some version of the Pitch 'N Time algorithm, and we don't have any realistic way to verify that claim, it's pretty clean sounding.
V2 has "stem separation" to some degree, which is not that bad either, but you'd get the same kind of results from RipX, fast, and decent. It's not going to replace the better models in UVR5, but it is still useful when you are just cleaning up some loops.

If you want a lot more features like per pad FX, slicer, step sequencer, etc. then Apisonic Speedrum or ADSR Drum Machine are both very good plugin sampler instruments. I think the ADSR sampler has a little bit faster of a workflow, while Speedrum is deeper on options and details.

It's quite useful to have it in place because you can quickly try out a few ideas without having to jump back and forth between plugins and apps. All the different stems also have volume meters, so you don't have switch all the different stems on or off - you can also control the different volumes instead which often times ends in more natural sounding results. I'm sure there are better solutions, workflow-wise it's great to have the option to use it right away.

I think the good workflow is Serato Sample's biggest strength. You have a lot of control over the sample you are using, while also being able to edit it very quickly. In my mind, that's the main reason why many users swear by it.

Not sure if I'm allowed to share the direct links because they contain the original roms. Search the internet or github for VMPC2000XL and MPC 3000 For MAME.

However, these two only emulate the original OS and workflow, not the signal path or any aspect of the hardware sound. So unless you want to learn the workflow because you want to buy the hardware, these are pretty much a waste of time.

    You answered your own question.
