What’s the closest thing to an EMU Proteus plugin we have?

is there any difference in getting emu extreme lead ROM into proteus 2000 instead of getting the unit itself? and planet earth rom? And mo phatt rom? it will work inside the proteus right?

I still have a Proteus 2. I have not plugged it in for well over 10 years. I probably should have sold it while it was still working. After this thread I went and had a look at it and the small green screen looks bad and white crusty build-ups on the MIDI ports...sigh... I can post a photo of my stupidity in not maintaining it. If anyone is an enthusiast who is an electronics engineer I could probably sell it cheeeeeeep. A person would need to be an enthusiastic electronics engineer with nostalgia and I have no idea how much damage it has received from remaining stationary in my garage for so long...
It would likely cost more to send it overseas than it is worth too. :( I am normally not stupid, but this time, yes.

EDIT - If you are not in southern hemisphere, you'll need a transformer so definitely not worth doing much but scrapping it because postage in these times is likely in the $200 range.

Don't know what it is. Don't care what it is. Curious if it 'lives' somewhere.

this one is quite bad. there is 2 revisions of proteus pack. one older. this one is newer but it sounds worse.. more plastic and un natural. i have both but i use the older one

This is the one I have as well (the older one). However that video reveals the truth about the hardware vs these kontakt "packs" as far as authenticity goes. Installed this kontakt one, and EMUlator X3 w/factory library. EMU X3 is somewhat obtuse in the GUI department and doesn't seem to hold it settings regarding library locations. However, the EMU X3 is much more authentic sounding to the hardware than any of those kontakt packs. If were talking plastic, unnatural (as opposed to what? it's a synth ffs...) or faithful to the original hardware the EMU X3 seems the most authentic to my ear. The Kontakt stuff are all soaked in fake effects, and ADSR's don't seem right on a lot of it - not really sure why they did that but it is what it is...

The E-MU emulator works fine and sounds good when you get it working but it is a bit clunky and some people found it unstable. It should theoretically be the better one because it is made by the people who created the hardware. As for whether it is or is not, this is an opinion debate I prefer to steer clear of. :)

Well, there are only two actual gui's one can use. First there is the standalone, which works OK for what it is - old warez. Then there's the VST2, which works OK in Reaper at least. The VST works fine without any bridge work. Tested in Cubase 14 and Reaper. Both seem fine to use for old warez... Just make certain you install the 64bit version. Patchwork didn't seem to like the VST much.

Maybe the Usual Suspects could do these EMU ROM synths at a later date. Honestly I loved to see all these old ROM digital synths emulated. Emu Morpheus goes for stupid money on Reverb and love to see them emulated for free.

That is not the only minor thing. A lot of distributions only have the samples. while the emulator certainly can combine them into an E-MU patch easily enough, it is not a lot different as in time consuming, to using chicken systems or CDXTRACT in that form. I imagine with the original releases they were probably decent but I cannot comment because I do not have non-samples only versions.

That's what I'm talking about! Low-end emulations have been a hot topic for some time and TUS are really giving it momentum. I wonder what challenges emulating Morpheus would pose, what with all the Z-plane goodness?

@Kate Middleton sorry to tag you I had to change my image up there the link ran out. I didn't expect that to happen.

Retard alert: I got that Digital Sound Factory Kontakt package working and am having some fun. I know nothing re comparing it to hardware. I don't know anything. Some decent sound though. The library seems complete with regard to preset count.

RED ALERT The one I got is 1.9Gb. I had to tracker it down. The one on the sister site is 393Mb. That's a large discrepancy. I may have the answer to that Q tonight.
