    I have a 218GB SSD C drive. It says I have 5GB left.

I can only account for about 100GB

    Windows - 51GB
    USERS - 14GB
    Programs - 16GB
    Programs(x86) - 12GB
    ProgramData - 8GB

That's it. I've googled it but haven't found any help.

    Windows 11

Start with checking C:\Users\YOU\AppData\Local\Temp - empty it if it's occupied.

Try using a space analyzer program like WizTree. It's free, at diskanalyzer dot com (unsure if I can paste URLs). Another one you can try is WinDirStat.

They'll show you what's using up space in your drive, both in a list and graphically.

Recycle bin maybe? It's kind of a lot for recycle bin but you never know.

Also check the disk manager, see if the disk space is properly allocated.

Windoze backups can be half that size. Choose an extrenal drive for backups if you have it.

Try with Windows app Disc Cleanup, and if you don't need old backuped driver package and Win updates, delete it.

Time for a 1TB ssd? To migrate is a push of a button. You boot up from a thumb drive into windows pe or linux, do a hard drive clone to the new drive. Boot from new drive. 1TB ssd's not that expensive. don't yell at me.

    1. Go to your Recycle Bin --> Properties --> Delete files immediately (don't move them to the Recycle Bin)
Leave checked: Show confirmation dialog before deletion

    2. Bleachbit - Free hard drive cleaning and privacy tool --> www.bleachbit.org

BleachBit cleans files to free up storage space, protect privacy, and remove junk data. Compatible with Windows and Linux.
Reclaim storage space: Remove temporary files, caches, logs, and other junk data that wastes gigabytes of storage space.

@zadiac I agree to disagree with you, in my country a good 1 TB SSD costs 200 EU, and people here earn 800 EU per month, you live in a different orbit my friend.

Check system restore and crush dumps, I once had an unreasonable amount of data taken by system restore settings.

I can understand that. I was just giving an option. I'm in South Africa, so it's even worse for me, but at least I already have a 2TB nvme drive, so I'm good, but I was just throwing an option out there. I know the prices have gone through the roof for the larger ssd drives, but 1Tb drives are still somewhat affordable on Amazon, even with the conversion to my currency. I don't know what the OP can afford, but was just an idea.

show hidden files and most likely you'll see pagefile and hiberfile on your C: location that take about as much time as your RAM

pagefile can be made smaller through Windows Settings, hiberfile can be disabled if you don't need hibernation by command: powercfg -h off

check WinSxS directory, there where all the MS Update / Hotfixes! A save way is to use DISM for Clean up! Do not delete any files in there manualy! Open cmd as elevated user type:
    dism /online /cleanup-image /startcomponentcleanup
    or even
    dism /online /cleanup-image /startcomponentcleanup /resetbase

Think to use SymLink to move some contents on a HDD/SSD/NVme external drive

A SymLink guide here (<- link)

Just an idea: have you tried the Windows Clean Manager? Maybe you have a lot of rubbish like windows update files and logs that are using a lot of space in your SSD.

Another thing is that for SSD drives it is better that the drive has enough free space for writing and reading without having to do certain things prior to do it.

    Better explained here:
It is generally recommended to keep at least
10% to 20% of your SSD's total capacity as free space for optimal performance, longevity, and to prevent slowdowns. Maintaining this space helps with file management and reduces wear. For heavy users, 20-30% is advisable.
    • 10–15% Free: Safe for light, everyday usage (browsing, office work).
    • 15–20% Free: Recommended for gaming, general usage, and to prevent "thrashing" (severe speed loss).
    • 20-30% Free: Best for heavy workloads (video editing, AI tasks) and drive longevity.
    Why Free Space Matters:
    • Performance: SSDs need empty blocks to move data efficiently while writing new files.
    • Longevity: Sufficient free space allows for better data leveling, preventing accelerated drive wear.
    • Updates: Operating systems (like Windows or macOS) require free space to install large updates.
If your drive is constantly full, consider upgrading to a larger capacity SSD or moving data to a secondary drive.

If all of the above fail to locate any culprit not listed and you have another drive, you can create junction points and move sample data and application data to another drive to free up space.
