I have the HS3, I have no room place and it's the perfect solution... I can't praise it enough. I heard that they have a curve closer to the NS10 than the HS4 and 5. also different conception. I wanted monitors that translate well on other systems... I just can't recommand enough for that. You can have of course some surprises with the subs... But they are very honest and don't hide anything in the mids... Since i have them, i make faster balances and cleaner mixes and premasters. Listen one Pink Floyd on it you will understand that they can be be very clean and sweet... But if you search some monitors that flatters it's not for you. It's harsh, it's a working tool, that make the job perfectly, and you can enjoy well mastered tracks on it ;) Pretty detailled even at low levels. It's also a nice complemantary set with bigger ones. I had Fostex before, was a joy to listen music on it but had always suprises with the basses and mids. Yamaha NS10 are references in studios since years and it's not for nothing.

Got a 5 and it sounds great. Very neutral but still good bass response.

    Hi, dude

I've had the HS8 for 10 years. Over this time I used them in 3 different rooms.
Today, I can tell you the room is VERY important.
The yamaha HS line are not top level/hiper-flat monitors, but if your room has a minimal acoustic treatment or, maybe, a naturally good acoustic architecture, you can achieve Pro level mix/final product.
The results are better if your listening position are very close to the monitors.

I also have the HS8s subwoofer and this is a great addiction to the set, specially if you produce hip-hop, EDM, etc
But if your room has bad acoustics, the Sub will turns it into chaos, it'll be worse.

P.S.: of course you can always check the results on your trusted headphones.
