i have a plugin that I want to automate the "modfilter" in the plugin, but it doesnt show up on the dropdown list in Ableton track. I can only manually automate and record to audio which isnt ideal. So I am wondering if there is such a plugin or max for live device that can select control and automate this plugin slider?

If the plugin doesn't expose the parameter to the host then it can't be automated.

Possible workarounds: if the plugin has macros, map the "modfilter" to a macro and automate that. Or assign the control to a MIDI CC and use that.

It's not possible I'm afraid. I have the same problem, some companies don't make their plugins mappable at all..
There's no secret API to access all parameters of a plug-in, it's their own choice which one they make mappable for the DAW/Midi.
