Airwindows Consolidated: free multi-FX plugin now with 500+ algorithms (update 03/2026) - arch 23, 2026

Airwindows Consolidated summarized Chris Johnson’s stellar DSP effects work, featuring nearly 400 effects in a new free multi-FX plugin.

There are many free effects plugins available. However, one developer’s name is unavoidable: Chris Johnson of Airwindows, who already offers more than 400 algorithms in his open-source, free multi-FX plugin.

He offers many classic effects like reverbs, delays, distortions, and more, as well as many innovative ones with fresh ideas. Since the beginning of the year, Chris has added numerous new algorithms.



You can download the algorithms as individual plugins or in the Airwindows Consolidated, which offers over 500 algorithms in a single plugin to explore. The new algorithms are:

• ToTape9: Airwindows tape emulation and brightness compression.
• Donut: is in memory of Dilla.
• Slew4: a tape compression without the tape, for brightness control.
• BezEQ2: a unique, subtle three-band shelving EQ.
• FatEQ: a FatEQ balances bands only with density.
• ZAcidLowpass: like if an e6400 went insane and grew shark teeth.
• ChimeyGuitar2: is a wilder ChimeyGuitar.
• DeNoise: can work as a multiband gate and as a wild effect.
• kWoodRoom: is a small wooden performing space.
• TapeHack2: brings Airwindows tape to a new level.
• SweetWide: a strange grungy stereo widener.
• ConsoleX2: the Channel and Buss plugins that make up the ConsoleX2 system

yup. great stuff. just fyi, Consolidated gets updated every time there is a new plugin from Chris, which is pretty much weekly, on Sundays i think.

 

I really enjoy the ToTape9 and plenty of other plugins in this pack that sound insanely good!
The only thing I’m not a huge fan of is the missing heavy-duty interface (but hey, the features totally make up for it, especially for grown-ups! )

 

Chris is the plugin world GOAT, sitting at the same table of people like Paul Frindle or Dave Hill

imagine Chris will team up with talented ui artist and supply non-bullshit first class ui for most used plugins (ToTape9 is prime candidate)

 

When ToTape9 came out i thought of creating a thread here because it's the best tape plugin on 2026, at least when it comes to sound; The level of control and realism is ridiculous. I built a crap ton of presets based on my favorite tape machines. If you have some visualization over the frequency response and head bump it's an easy task to mimic on ToTape9.
