You and others made that assumption.

"Sales have dropped to the point where they no longer cover basic running costs – and frankly, I'm tired of seeing my work, along with that of friends and colleagues like TimP and Cupwise, shared without respect just days after release."

Nowhere does it say sales are down because of these releases. Sales are down and motivation to continue has been low for a long time. Now new libraries are released without grace? Old saying goes "The straw that broke the camels back".

Now why don't you try look at it from the perspective of the developer instead?

Another thing about the conspiracy theory being Gian or competitor - suppliers are known. You think Gian waited this long to put the final nail in the coffin? Haha. Gian put the final nail in the coffin years ago on the day third party developers rejected his new terms and business proposition going forward.

Hahaha go and smoke more weed.

To those who don't understand why these releases are a bad thing - the tech required to make a Nebula library is locked behind a gate, and now there is only 1 active developer left.

Fast-forward the story of our ever-accelerating "information age" a few years. Can you imagine the enthusiastic reply of a young producer, probably the most fertile demographic for selling digital goods, when asked whether they even know what "Nebula" is, and just how terribly they miss it while trying to put their seductive sound onto the open, fair marketplace? In that fresh, young mind, the one we are constantly told the future belongs to, "Nebula" simply does not exist, and things that never existed there tend not to be missed.

I understand what you're saying, however, it's based on the flawed assumption that we are somehow "entitled" to certain technology, gear, tools, etc. (or even more broadly, that we are somehow entitled to certain opportunities, environments, etc. for that matter) just because of our occupation, or what someone enjoys doing, or just because of ones life situation even.

This is silently, essentially, the main premise underneath most of everyone's reasonings here for justifying it. Which is just simply wrong no matter how much you or I wish it was true (and trust me, I as well, really wish it was true too lol).

Like I really* want a 5 speed 1996 Twin Turbo 300ZX, or a Mint Sontec 432 for that matter. Or even for Pro Tools to have perpetual licenses (with updates) again. Well, tough luck me. No matter how much I try to justify or point out wrongdoings by Nissan, Sontec, or Avid for that matter, etc etc etc., stealing any of those things would still be wrong no matter how we slice it.

Again, as I've previously stated, I have also downloaded and used warez, making me also a thief, but I'm not gonna try to justify those actions to make myself feel better because in the long run, the bill for avoiding accountability (whether internal or otherwise) always* comes, trust me. Ironically, most of the time, you're paying that bill without even realizing it.

Hello, I'm just a Noob with Nebula but I thought that maybe buyers got a little oversaturated with Nebula libraries? I don't really know exactly but to me it looks like that many Nebula stuff is kinda samey?

Another thing to consider is that Acustica used to offer a PAID course that showed you how to use NAT, the back end program used to sample eqs, compressors etc. But, major pieces of information were left out, so in the end you couldn't really do anything with it even though you had paid for the course. 100% on purpose to choke the flow of Nebula developers, essentially gate keeping behaviour, which is fine but don't get people to pay for a frigging course if you're going to do this and not tell them beforehand..! These libs that are being shared - the vector files are encrypted so all the harmonic and EQ information is generally in one file per program, not tens to hundreds in the raw form you get when you initially sample with NAT. The course didn't show you how to encrypt or even make skins properly so there's no way you could sell anything. The small handful of people like AlexB and TimP who were able to get the information way back when the course showed you everything were the only ones who were actually able to release libraries at all.

So with the whole 'this will destroy the Nebula scene' argument, be aware that the scene is very small because the tech is so guarded and gate kept, with those few developers in the know no doubt adding to that fact and keeping it that way. If more people had the information about sampling gear and being able to release libraries, we wouldn't be in this quandary. This is why I dig NAM so much - it's a massive open source community that amongst a whole lot of crap there are some truly amazing FREE home made profiles of studio equipment, some better than any of these Nebula libs (well the saturation ones anyway). NAM 2 is about to drop - it's hugely robust as far as potential longevity as a platform is concerned.

At the end of the day, any of the esoteric EQ curves available in Nebula programs can be replicated in any DAW eq, (well, maybe just maybe not the super high end of the frequency range, Nebula does a very good job there, especially boosts which we all know add up in a mix) but using the libs is fun AND very accurate in respect to using the old gear sampled, which if you are used to the gear or not allows you to conveniently accommodate the way you mix. Acustica have newer EQ tech which has far better transient and phase response than anything Nebula can offer.

There's a lot of completely irrelevant opinions in this thread that have no bearing on anything I must say, like the 'kind' of people who use Nebula stuff (what?) or whether it is valid (It is and/or it isn't... completely irrelevant, why would anyone one care? it's just a mixing tool). As if us Nebula users don't also mainly use something like ProQ 4 for EQ - it's possible lol.! You want to know what the comment is going to be like? just look at the profile pics - pretty good indication. Some very good points though as well.

NAM is the future while Nebula is stuck in a timewarp, but there is nothing stopping anyone using both of them (and even algo plugins for that matter).
