Utterly useless of course, without Gilmour bending it like it were made of rubber.

About that..., Gilmour sold that strat 6+ years ago for $3.975M I believe - proceeds donated to charity, as were the proceeds to his house, recently (he mentions both in his 2+ hour Rick Beato interview if memory serves).

The person who bought it then (Jim Irsay, owner of the NFL's Indianapolis Colts) has simply just resold it - for $10M more, and also for charity. "Sales from all Jim's guitars are going towards mental health research, treatment, and raising awareness."

David or Jim, notwithstanding the royalty ecosystem aspect and/or reading between any reserve sale/reselling costs lines... Cool!

A handcrafted electric guitar belonging to Jerry Garcia, guitarist of the Grateful Dead, also fetched a significantly higher price than expected: $11.5 million.

This is from wikipedia for reference:

On 20 June 2019, Gilmour auctioned 120 of his guitars for charity, at Christie's in New York, including his Black Strat, his #0001 and early 1954 Stratocasters, and his 1955 Les Paul. The Black Strat sold for $3,975,000, making it the most expensive guitar ever sold at auction. The auction raised $21,490,750, with the proceeds going to the environmentalist charity ClientEarth.

and then the guitar will hang somewhere or totally being unused ...

    That is kinda sad imo.

Reminds me on the mixer desk being auctioned at reverb for 2mio GBP ... in the end its just a collectable, one will never make that kind of music the artists did make with it ... all that bcs of nostalgic, sentimental value?

Almost $15 million for an old guitar used by David Gilmour?

I can't even imagine the astronomical amount I'll be able to get by selling the VolumeShaper plugin from David Guetta which he gave me for my 60th birthday...

Keep in mind that you can do a lot of good things with 14 million.

When i started bending i learned so much from studying Gilmour (and Clapton of course ) play and how they approach and make use of the Pentatonic minor scale along w/ the blues scale w the added 5th. Just the way he does those huge 2 step bends are so sweet. I have a mexican Strat Black w maple neck trying to be cool like the man himself.. haha! Even as iconic as that guitar is man thats alot of Coin to drop on 1 Guitar

It's a museum piece of history. There's no reason someone else should even play it and risk damage to it. It's a 69 stratocaster with nothing technically superior, rare, or irreplaceable about it, other than that it was the guitar he used on famous recordings. They made over 200,000 of them that year.

Seeing it used by some random guitar player is what would be sad. It's better off on a wall and under glass, but in a museum. Not like some 30 million dollar dinosaur skeleton that disappears into a private collection never to be seen again.
