Well... recently, while browsing the sister site, I saw the Gold Clip and wanted to try it again, since I use the KNOCK clipper as my main clipper. But for some reason, in the configuration you'll see below, I love how the Gold Clip sounds, followed by the KCLIP, but I think this one is adding a delay? Which is compensated for when you restart playback from the beginning... And the KNOCK clipper does something different because I have to add gain first and then see how much “clip” to add with the center knob. Then I do gain staging...

Does anyone have or have had experience with these three? Am I delusional, or does the Gold Clip sound much better than the others?

the algorithm is different. its meant to emulate a lavry gold. sounds better than ash and ash ultra honestly
but gold on gold clip is a soft compressor and alchemy softens harmonics in the mids and highs.so all in all it should sound better.
all 3 work as does standard clip
I use all 3 but for the last year gold clip lives on the mixbus and often my drum bus for an its mix. hybrid my bettermaker limiter with the clipper engaged stays on mixes

knock is actually the weakest of them sound wise but on kicks or snares I like it... but it could never go on my mixbus... just doesn't work for me

Standard Clip if you want something to click on things. ) ClipOnly2 by airwindows if you want load the plugin and forget.

 

If you want more transparent, and easy to avoid overshoot go with StandardClip. More flexibility, Kclip3, more color Orange Clip or GoldClip, both from Schwaabe. Cleaner and often a bit louder results, Saturate. Black Salt is probably the most simple of all. Standard Clip after that, it has an assistant mode that listens to the loudest part of your track and tells you exactly what dB you can gain the channel into the clipper. It's probably the best one to learn with.

yea i love Newfangled Saturate but too high on cpu, recently saw GoldClip better CPU handling so im keeping it

 

wowow what? i need more detail about airwindows clipper... every time i read somethign about airwindows its good. but never tried it with considered time to judge them.

 

yea standarclip was the only one i bought time ago... and with goldclip have to installed again to make a good decision so, with this resume i have a very good base to pick my final clipper! thanks for this resume!

 

I've never noticed any delay into Kclip3, and that could just be Logic autocorrecting the latency. The real reason why I probably have never noticed it otherwise is because of the way I use clippers. I use them as print-through processing, only when I am bouncing a sample in place, or rendering, or freezing a stem. When I clip something, I'm almost always just shaving a dB or two. I add -clipped to that audio files filename. That way any clipper is not hogging cpu resources to process anything in realtime. If Saturate is too cpu-heavy for you, this is a perfect example. It would mean the difference only in rendering time. That's why quite a few of them have otherwise ridiculous oversampling values available.

 

Funny enough, I actually just dug into the airwindows clippers earlier today. Ive been a long time fan of his stuff but never gave the clippers a proper run. Well worth checking out. If you don't already have it, install the Airwindows Consolidated plugin, as it has all of his stuff in one plugin.

Also regarding clipping, if you have Nebula some of Tim P's programs come with clippers that are really something else. They are not transparent, but when pushed till you are getting 2-3 db of clipping they sound amazing.

yea thats why i use knock clipper, its ultra light cpu... even at HQ mode, but my pc doesnt handle that bad the goldclip... so im thiking what to do, i almost use all before bouncing, cause i dont want to bounce then make a change then bounce then change etc... so i have studio one 7 pro and a ryzen 5 3600, not a problem to be honest, its a problem with arturia synth, thats bitch3s consume some xd. i guess theres something in the oversampling

yea its only for mac x_x dont know why... but that where i though.. hey... this exists and time ago i tried it but my experience was kinda starting in this topic so... never saw the differences really well... but now i see its a good tool... im considering buying this...
