The thread starter wrote in the introduction: “Guys, it has come to our attention that DiscoDSP has literally copied the code from our GitHub, repackaged it as a single plugin, and is now selling it.” This makes it seem as though he is a TUS developer, which he is not, and that changes the whole context of this thread. The only one that cries here is the thread starter, not TUS.

...While we appreciate the gesture, we have decided to refund the donation.

It must be a hard slap in the face.

there are success and failures. It's not truthful to choose one or the other.

Sorry for pushing the envelope too far ladies and gentlemen. in the meantime, having a blast with Corona. Noteworthy perhaps or not, but it seems to want the 'wave expansion files'.

    My explorations call.... good day

This is unfortunate because Disco DSP made a good product with Discovery but unlike Adam Szabo with Viper, the developer never created a community with the users or had open and genuine communications with the fanbase on various platforms.

Disco DSP seems very opaque to me, all their demos on YouTube are voiced by IA, it's hard to empathize or connect with the team/guy which we don't know anything about, good or bad. Take Magnus Lindstrom who created Microtonic or Steve Duda who made Serum, both have forums on their websites and respond personally to the users which increased the trust in Sonic Charge and Xfer.

Disco DSP flagship synth was always very expensive for no apparent reason other than the fact that they were the only ones proposing a good Nord Lead emulation with a GUI similar to the hardware. You can Make all these sounds with Spire, Serum or Dune mind you.

TUS came along with a better product, for free, gave the option to support them and the devs always communicated a lot on Audiosex, Discord and other platforms. The result, from the start, was outpouring support from the users and the fanbase skyrocketed overnight.
They also released bangers after bangers every few months or so. The approach of coding the actual Motorola chip was just too much of a genius move and outstanding outside of the box thinking.

Adam Szabo released Airwave, his JP8080 emulation maybe a week or even less before TUS announced their JE-8086, you never heard him complain about it or do something as stupid as lifting TUS code to use it in his projects.

TUS made DiscoDSP irrelevant, it was never personal nor business (it's free) the product is just better, that's it. Additionally the users trust the developpers and they form a community together which don't seem to be the case for DiscoDSP relationship with their users that, to me, looks much more like a seller/clients dynamic with very little informations exchanged other than credit cards.

You can feel that some DiscoDSP users on this forum are very defensive about this subject because they paid 199$ for Discovery a long time ago, which I get, but man, just let it go, we all now you use Nodal Red in secret anyways.

DiscoDSP business probably took a huge hit when Nodal Red released, I don't see anyone buying their product after that and it must have been hard to stomach that TUS made them obsolete and feel like their hard work was going down the drain. They probably lifted the code to make the free Retromulator rompler in order to attract new customers for their other paid products but that was a huge public relation mistake, idk what they were thinking doing this to such a beloved project like DSP56300.

Donating after the backlash is PR nightmare and TUS refunding the money is just the nail in the coffin. They will never come back from this, they are cooked.

TUS painstakingly coded the Motorola chip, designed an GUI with the original workflow, sound, and gave it away for free, which no one have ever think do before. Sure the true innovators are the Swedish engineers at Clavia that imagined the Nord Lead during the 90's in the first place but I think it's pretty different from what DiscoDSP has done (which in the grand scheme of things is not that important tbh but I can understand TUS team frustration).

I Don't even know who the main guy behind DiscoDSP is and I can understand how any decent individual can do a series of bad decisions that lead to and unfortunate ending. Or maybe this was just coming to them because they had bad behavior repeatedly and acted out of spite with the Retromulator code thing. Anyways, they just destroyed their brand image.

My best advice for DiscoDSP team would be to Let it go, create a new company, make a good new product, be transparent with their users, develop a strong community and learn from their mistake. They should not cling to DiscoDSP because it will only hurt them.

I mean it's done, The Usual Suspects killed the virtual analog game, now all there is left to do is to design good skins for their projects.
    It is what it is.
