Every once in a while i come back to read this. The structure of the Scene is amazing.

 

Are Topsites / ftp still a thing in this day and age? How is the "real" scene doing anyway, I was involved bit in the early 2000s and ftp was definitely used, not sure how it is nowadays ... Those were pretty exciting times back then with the scene, but Is the information still relevant in the original post about the scene / ftp / Topsites and all that jazz in 2026? I guess we're more talking bout groups releasing games and movies and such ...

 

You guys missed the wild west of hiding files in Windows NT4 with open ISS servers hiding our files in sub (..) directories. It was a game of cat and mouse scanning for Servers that were left open with FTP access, upload the files then share the links and hope the admins did not care about the traffic lol.

 

Yeah I remember doing some of that back in the day! I mean I was just leeching warez from such servers with hidden directories, sometimes was a long thing you had to copy and paste to the ftp client!
