Hi, is there a way to control the input gain of the mixer or the gain parameter of the Mixtool via MIDI so that it is always automatically mapped to the selected channel in the mixer? I have a small Korg Nano Studio integrated into S1 as a control surface, but unfortunately, every time I want to adjust the gain value of the respective Mixtool, I have to open the Mixtool and have it in focus... I really just want to have a Knob that automatically switches to the selected channel in the mixer, which I can then use to control the input gain of the console.

In this Video you can see what I mean:

Certainly sounds easy enough using a macro:

Here’s a way to streamline it so you don’t have to manually open Mixtool each time you switch tracks — it’s still using Studio One’s Macros, but it reduces the friction:

    1. Keep Mixtool Open on All Tracks
    • Instead of opening/closing the Mixtool plugin window per track, keep a Mixtool instance visible for each track in the Console view.

    • You can collapse them so they don’t clutter the view, but the plugin remains loaded and ready.
    2. Map the Knob to the Plugin Parameter
    • Map your Korg Nano knob to the Mixtool gain parameter of the first track.

    • In Studio One, this mapping is per plugin instance.
    3. Use a Macro to Focus the Selected Track’s Plugin
    • Create a Macro with just these actions:
      1. Select Track (optional if you always have the track highlighted).

      2. Focus Mixtool on the selected track (Studio One command: “Show [Mixtool] on Selected Track”).
    • Assign this Macro to a keyboard shortcut or a controller button.
    4. Using the Workflow
    • When you switch tracks, press the Macro once.

    • The knob automatically controls the gain of the Mixtool on the selected track without having to open a plugin window manually each time.

    • Because each track’s Mixtool is already loaded, the knob always responds to the correct instance.
    5. Optional: Consolidate Knob Mapping
    • If you have multiple Mixtools across tracks, you could make a MIDI controller bank per track.

    • Or just use one knob and rely on the Macro — one press per track switch is usually faster than manually opening plugins.
    Result:

    • No need to remap the knob for every track.

    • No constant plugin window management.

    • Minimal extra step: one Macro press after switching tracks.
