Gamma Wave Audio - Gamma Wave (Synth Plugin) Donationware

Gamma Wave by Gamma Wave Audio is a Virtual Instrument Audio Plugin and a Software Application for macOS and Windows. It functions as a VST 3 Plugin and a Standalone Application.

Gamma Wave isn't just another subtractive synth. It's a texture machine designed to turn static waveforms into living, breathing sonic landscapes. With its "Hearth" saturation engine, granular processing, and the new Flux instability system, Gamma Wave brings the unpredictability of modular hardware to your DAW.

    Core Features
    - Hybrid Engine: Combines classic analog-style waveforms with granular synthesis.
    - Hearth Saturation: A multi-stage distortion unit with 7 unique algorithms: Heat, Inertia, Gravity, Singularity, Photosphere, Flux, Fold.
    - Flux Instability: A global macro that drifts pitch, jitters filters, and degrades signal integrity for that "aging hardware" feel.
    - Granular FX: Transform simple sounds into evolving textures.
    - Mutate: Intelligent randomization for instant patch generation.

    The Sounds
Gamma Wave comes with over 200 factory presets tailored for Techno, DnB, and Cinematic scoring:
    - Bass (38): 808s, Reeses, Acid, and Sub-bass variants.
    - Leads (44): Aggressive mono leads and soaring poly synths.
    - Keys & Pluck (44): Short, percussive melodic elements.
    - Pads & Atmospheres (60+): Drones, Swells, Strings, and classic Pads.
    - Bells (21): FM-style and metallic chimes.
    - Brass (14): Heavy synth brass and stabs.
    - Arp & Sequences (16): Rhythmic patterns and motion.
    - FX & Voices (20+): Risers, impacts, and vocal textures.

    Info / Demo/ Download: https://shadowtune.itch.io/gammawave

    Pricing: Donationware
Gamma Wave is Free to Download but relies on your support to keep evolving.
    - Free Version (Demo): Fully functional for sound design and rendering.
    - Limitation: A short silence is inserted every 60 seconds.
    - Full Version (Any Donation): Donate $1 or more to get a valid license key that unlocks the full experience.

    Hey everyone,

First off, huge thanks to PulseWave for starting this thread and sharing GammaWave here on AudioSex! Really appreciate the exposure—it's one of the spots where serious sound designers hang out, so seeing it mentioned means a lot.

Quick update since the initial post: - Now at **v1.0.4** (UI polish, better stability across Win/macOS/Linux, CPU safeguards, and some small Flux tweaks for even wilder instability without crashing DAWs). - Demo still fully functional (all 297 presets, granular + VA oscs, modulation, FX chain)—only a short silence every 60 seconds to nudge folks toward unlocking. - Full clean version (no silence, free preset saving) via donation of **$5 or more** (pay-what-you-want/can) on itch.io.

    If anyone's tried it:
    - What do you think of it?
    - Favorite preset categories? (Trap 808s/subs, Techno acid/Reeses, DnB atmospheres, cinematic pads/drones?)
    - Any feature requests or bugs on your setup? (Linux users especially—support is solid but always happy to hear.)

I'm working on some demo videos right now: short preset walkthroughs showing how to dial in gritty evolving sounds, massive bass, or dark risers.

Grab the demo here if you haven't: https://shadowtune.itch.io/gammawave

Also spotted the "Wave Movements Soundset" thread—cool to see people making content for it already! If anyone creates/buys/shares packs, feel free to link/drop impressions.

Hit me with thoughts, audio examples, or roast the silence nag if it's annoying you Looking forward to hearing what you cook up with it.

    Cheers, ShadowTune

    this is wrong:

    System Requirements
    Platform OS Architecture Formats
    macOS
macOS 10.13+ (High Sierra) Universal Binary (Intel x86_64 + Apple Silicon arm64) VST3, AU, Standalone

File command in Terminal shows this result: /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/Components/GammaWave.component/Contents/MacOS/GammaWave: Mach-O 64-bit bundle arm64

It does not show your .component plugin AU binary has a x86_64 Intel slice at all. Both versions on the downloads page are not U2B binaries.

Same thing here for the VST3:
    GammaWave_v1.0.3_MacOS_BN20260226-a621713 2/GammaWave.vst3/Contents/MacOS/GammaWave: Mach-O 64-bit bundle arm64

    and here:
    GammaWave_v1.0.3_MacOS_BN20260226-a621713 2/GammaWave.app/Contents/MacOS/GammaWave: Mach-O 64-bit executable arm64

Hey TheWolf, thanks a ton for the feedback and for taking the time to point this out—super helpful and much appreciated!

    1. You actually **do get a fully functional demo** right now—no payment or signup required. Just download from itch.io, install, and everything works (all 297 presets, granular + VA engines, modulation, FX chain, Flux instability for that modular chaos, etc.). The only limitation is a short silence inserted every 60 seconds (a classic nag to encourage unlocking). It's built so you can load it in your DAW, tweak/play extensively, and really test it out without barriers. For longer uninterrupted sessions, the full unlock is $5+ donation (removes silence + enables clean preset saving).

    2. Sound demos: Totally agree—more dedicated ones are coming! I'm actively working on my own short video walkthroughs this week. They'll be narrated/uploaded to my channel and linked here.

In the meantime, there's this excellent silent demo video someone else made (shoutout to the uploader "Elektronick Musick" for the great showcase!):
It's from the early v1.0.x build, no talking, just ~21 minutes of continuous raw audio playback highlighting the evolving textures, Flux unpredictability, Hearth saturation/distortion, granular processing, and various presets in action. Good way to hear the plugin's potential without voiceover.

Stay tuned for the new ones from me—should give a clearer picture with explanations. If you (or anyone else) grabs the demo and gives it a spin, please drop your thoughts below: favorite presets/categories? Cool Flux/Hearth tricks you've found? Any bugs or suggestions? All feedback directly influences the updates (v1.0.5 dropping soon with more stability/polish).

Thanks again—really value the input! ShadowTune

Thanks a ton for the sharp feedback and for running those checks—spot-on and really appreciated!
You're right: the current macOS binaries ended up arm64-only instead of true Universal (x86_64 + arm64) as listed. It was a build configuration miss on my end.

This is fixed in v1.0.5 (rebuilding now on CI to confirm both architectures are properly included). Once released (tomorrow), the new macOS ZIP should load and run natively on both Intel and Apple Silicon Macs.

I'll update the itch.io page/devlog with the confirmation once verified.

Thanks again for catching this—super helpful for keeping cross-platform support solid. If you test the next build or spot anything else, let me know!

    Cheers, ShadowTune

Great work on the synth. Some suggestions:
    - on/off buttons for fx
    - delay with panning (so that it is possible to do ping/pong)
    - presets are quite similar in timber. Not sure why. It might be your taste. Maybe have diverse people create presets in different styles?
    - the interface has very small buttons that are hard to read (the mixer). Not sure how to improve that. Maybe have tabs?
    - having several layers would help to get more complex sounds and preset out of the box.

Thanks a lot for the kind words and the thoughtful suggestions — really appreciate it! Great to hear you're digging the synth overall.

Quick updates / thoughts on your points:
    - On/off buttons for FX: Already added in v1.0.5 (just released today)! You can now bypass each effect individually.
    - UI size / small buttons: You can scale the entire interface larger in the Options menu. That should make the mixer buttons and labels much easier to read. Let me know if it helps or if tabs/other layout changes still feel necessary.
    - Delay with panning (ping-pong style): Good call — not there yet, but it's a solid feature request for future FX expansion. I'll put it on the list.
    - Presets sounding similar in timbre: Fair point. The current 297 are mostly my own taste/experiments, so they do cluster in certain territories. Diversity is definitely the goal long-term — I'd love community help here! If anyone (including you) wants to contribute a small pack in different styles (cleaner ambient, brighter leads, warmer subs, etc.), feel free to reach out or share — happy to include credited user presets in future updates.
    - Multiple layers / multi-timbral: This would unlock way more complex patches out of the box — noted as a bigger architectural thing to consider down the line (after nailing core stability and single-layer depth).

v1.0.5 is live now with the FX bypasses + other under-the-hood fixes (better CPU, stability, macOS universal binary confirmed, etc.):

Thanks again for the detailed feedback — it's exactly what helps prioritize. If you try the new version and have more impressions (or want to collab on presets), drop them here anytime.

    Cheers! ShadowTune
