Guys it’s came to our attention that DiscoDSP has literally lifted the code from our GitHub and repackaged it under a single plugin and is now selling it

Although we operate under a GPLv3 license and we can’t stop this happening it goes completely against what our open source project stands for

If you knew how many hours we have put into this project you would sense my frustrations

While I think this is not the way to go, but they're crediting you so there's precious little you can do about it, and they're (as far as I can tell) not distributing the ROMs. So while shitty, they're not doing anything wrong.

It's not they. it's a single person, and this is basically what he does. steals other peoples shit, sticks a different UI on it, fair enough he maintains them and does update them, but he's not a DSP developer all his early stuff was built on code of Arguru's and the guy behind the Jeskola Buzz stuff, his other stuff was lifted from other developers or GLP license stuff like the free Oberheim emulation, OPL etc. he's a scumbag for sure

 

looks like it's free to use with option to purchase as a support. I think it's fine as long as they don't completely paywall it.

 

We are immensely thankful to the team of the usual suspects, for the ability to try synths out like the Virus Ti. I hope this incident will not discourage you from further development. I'm desperately waiting for the Novation Supernova implementation and hopefully in the future somebody will provide a Kurzweil K2000 emulation as well. Do not be discouraged or lose faith in any case.

 

It will take alot more than that to discourage us don’t worry

Why would Discoman even distribute this stuff if it has already been made instead of singing the engines praises and just supplying a link to Ayahuasca and company? What added value has been added to make this a DiscoDSP product?

 

The Usual Suspect emulators are an asset to humanity, preserving the synthesizers of the early 90s. Thank you Ayahuasca and team for the hard work!!

It´s stuff that´s dying due to electronics and maintance for example..
I think it´s absolute fine to reverse engineer stuff to keep them alive, even in digital form..
