The thing I hate is they add the number to the plugin id like kontakt 8 so when they go to 9 all your old sessions won't find kontakt 8 anymore. So, you have to keep every version installed for old sessions.

They should just have it appear as kontakt only. What company puts the version number on the plugin so back compatibility is non existent or am I missing something?

 

I enhanced Kontakt 8 with the TK421 modification from Buck's Super Cool Stereo World. It cheeks up the bass another 3-4 err, QUADs per channel... The TK421 makes Kontakt kick, turn, curl up your belly, and makes you wanna freaky deeky.

it is copy protection via update versions of the plugin.

 

I've only really come to using Kontakt from 7.6.0 forward. I slightly agree with you though. The interface change from 7 to 8 is massive. I had to relearn where everything is due to how weird they placed some options. Outside of that, the libraries function the same. Thats all that matters to me.

 

After the interval, the sound is the most important aspect of a track Kontakt, generally has a shitty sound, it fails miserably over an octave, the sound becomes mechanical and unrealistic. I write real fast, that's where it's at for me, so too fiddly for me, but wouldn't use it anyway, same goes for Serum.

You willget a much better quality, 'chart ready' overall sound using samples, can speed up your workflow too.

The Update Trap: I like products that work and are ready to go. With every update, bugs are fixed, but usually new ones are introduced. Each update requires you to invest your time, and if it doesn't work, you get frustrated and sometimes even have to seek help.

The best way to get back to enjoying using Kontakt again is to delete all the content libraries and go back to building ur own instruments from scratch.

The interface definitely could do with a refresh to make it easier to use and see, bt I remember the backbreaking days of being kneeled in front of an Akai with a failing barely readable tiny screen, so I can’t complain about Kontakt’s interface to be fair.

 

I have supported NI Kontakt since v.1.0... best working version is indeed v.5!
Im used to deal with the updates/upgrades since I have been on the wagon from the start and find it pretty easy to deal with.
Only backside is the fact you need to upgrade over and over if you want to use latest libraries - thats their business model.

I can work with multiple versions of Kontakt thanks to the portable one. I use the new libraries in v8, while the old ones remain in v6 and 7

Can you really not use the old libraries in the new version? I can understand the other way around.

The old libraries are already installed on 6 and 7 and I leave them there because I'm lazy.

 

Old libraries work fine in newer Kontakts. I think you can still open Kontakt 2 instruments in 8 so we're good here.

*edit* ah, while newer Kontakts open old Kontakt files fine a feature was dropped on 6 onwards and that's importing things like Akai format CDs, Kurzweil libraries, and so on, so if you're into those it's still worthwhile to keep K5 around to convert them to NKIs or whatever.
