Hey! I know that there is a "software news" tread about this, but I want to spark further discussion.

We can all agree that the price is far too high, but i kind of like this plugin because it's a nice addition to my usually used seventh heaven for more "effect type" Reverbs. Works really well even with a big wet amount.


I would like to know:


Did some of you got the Plugin?

Did some of you demo it and think about getting it, or did you not like it?

Di you wait until Black Friday?

Do you try it and thought that you can get this sound with other plugins?

Just found out that they won't do a Black Friday Sale. Confirmed by their support.

Neunaber Audio Wet Reverberator

Like the Big Sky the Neunaber Wet is also based on a guitar pedal (one of my favourite reverbs btw). I can only speak for the pedals, cause I don't had the chance to try the Big Sky vst. Both pedals have that clean, dreamlike modulated, almost-too-nice sound in common, which makes them great for big ambiences. Unlike the Big Sky, Neunaber Wet does not have different modes ... but the plugin version is capable of very different settings.

 

It would appear to be floating about, R2R release.

I was always tempted to buy the Guitar pedal because it sounded sexy, and I'm a sucker for big ambient verb guitar, but I don't have a working electric guitar anymore anyway so I've have to settle for the plugin.

£150 is a bit steep for a Reverb plugin, no matter how lovely it sounds. probably less than £100 would be looking somewhere near more realistic

Oh yeah, I wasn't going to ever buy it, it lacks uhh, what's the word. It lacks physicality

To be fair I should look into freeware more

 

For this price, you sure can get a very good pedal second hand (MXR M300 Reverb...)
As freeware, Valhalla Supermassive is impressive.

In the realm of similar plugins trying to the Big Sky, I thought the Audiority Xenoverb sounds better. Maybe I just haven't played around with the Strymon plugin enough, and I don't have the real pedal to compare to, I just found it easy to get a better sounding reverb out of the Xenoverb

 

Joey Sturgis Tones put this out for $15 immediately after Strymon released the Big Sky plugin.
Was he trolling? Is it close enough to make you think thrice about getting the Strymon version?
Do you really need another reverb plugin?
These are questions.

I think the allure of Strymon plugins is that people are hoping they will sound as good as Strymon pedals but actually the pedals sound great because of the components rather than the firmware inside. I have a Strymon Blue Sky pedal and there's no comparison, the quality that makes it great is completely missing in the plugin.

 

How much incentive is there for them to make them sound identical? Is the difference because they can't, or is it that they don't want to...

I was kind of hoping the plugins were not all that obviously amazing to me because I'm not playing a guitar into them. They are nice plugins, but they seem to be one of those things you hear lots of hype about and then they are released, never to be heard about again.

 

It's one of those things that you have to experience in person to know what I'm talking about, there really is a big difference, not just because the pedals are analogue, though that is a big part of the sound, but Strymon in particular seem to have mastered how their pedals add to the tone of the guitar and I suspect anything else put through them. It's hard to describe, it's like the effect itself has a warm tone. If you get a chance to try one you'll hear what I mean immediately.

 

Yeah there's something about hardware reverbs/pedals.

I had one of these, sold it unfortunately but the shimmer verb was the standout sound, I've not heard anything software recreate it.
