What is EH Bass Balls? The name seems familiar but we could use a photo for reference

I find my Jen Electronica CRY BABY that I bought 1967 is my best sounding Wah pedal, and I still have it today, 9v battery life in those days was crap so I drilled a small hole in the right side to install a small jack to use a 9v power supply which was something I did for the 9v pedals I owned in those early days.
The better VST plugin Wahs are the Nembrini Wah, Blue cat Miaow with the Kuassa Efektor WF3607 being the best of the three. Just my opinion on ones I have tried but I'm sure that others must also sound good.

Electro-Harmonix Bass Balls, an autofilter. It's, uh, gnarly. I tried it (on a bass) and it was just wonky. Fun, but not 100 euro amount of fun to me.

100% agree, they sound exceptional. The only downside is that its Nebula lol.

If you have ableton / M4L, or are windows (plugin version is windows only) I love this freebie. Its a little wonky at times, but its a very fun, creative effect with 10 different algorithms, 4 types of distortion and multiple ways to trigger it. It may not be the most accurate wah out there, but its a lot of fun. I sometimes swap out Cupwise / Tim P Nebula wahs for this, as I realize I wanted the audio to be more in an interesting effect sort of space and not just a standard wah.

I find the autowah presets on guitar rig give pretty close to those quacky tones on FOTM or Estimated

Yeah, I know what it's like to get pedals or gear stolen from studios or at shows with several groups sharing the setup areas I've lost several pedals and even a 70's Tele and an LP standard, after that I never left anything in a studio or at multi performer shows later on we had help to protect and guard our backstage gear. When you have gear you really love vanish, it hurts. Obviously not all at the same times, but over the years.

If you're looking for a wha wha plugin the Kuassa Efektor WF3607 is the best but... around you will find it only for Win.

If you're on Mac, though, you'll have to buy it (and then send it over to me). :bleh:

I don't know why, but when it comes to AU/VST no one has ever managed 'to screw' it over that Efektor WF3607. Even in the last couple of years, some have given it a go, they've tried, but it's been impossible to defeat it, even though it's just a small, simple plugin. Very very strange... :snuffy:

Logic has a stock one called fuzz-wah that I never use, but that's mostly because UVI Shade and Fabfilter Volcano 3 are way more configurable and so of course they sound better. They both have presets even that work great for the filter sweeps I actually use the effect for, almost never guitars; like drums, top percs, and basses. UVI Shade even has a Cry parameter you can link to a macro. Soundtoys Phase Mistress is another good substitute.

That is a valid point . I never tried a Morley but every pedal I ever owned was scratchy . I am sure that could be simulated like the wind noise on Leslie simulations gets simulated / sampled . I think the Kuassa sounds pretty decent judging from youtube

Listen... I share your frustration with wah wah effects. They suck. All of them. The best wahs? The ones in Keyscape. We need to recreate them. I am willing to do the work. The sound profile is easy, but I am not sure how to nail the thresholds. Any ideas before I waste 2 weeks of my life?

Have you tried the different wah modules in IK Amplitube 5? Its a bit feature bloated and is annoying to midi map the pedal (though I have the iRig Stomp io), but it sounds good to my ears.

So, I’ve always used a duo: the Morley Bad Horsie V1 and, to my surprise (and perhaps to anyone else’s here), the wah from one of my old pedalboards, the Zoom 8080, already discontinued. But this last one reminds me SO MUCH the Crybaby's sound, and still allows for varied register configurations, which makes the result incredibly versatile! Because of this duo, I’ve never had any major issues with wahs (it has always covered my needs). By the way, I’ve always regarded any wah plugins as an extra bonus, or mere curiosities. Has anyone tried any of the wahs included in the IK Multimedia AmpliTube 5 and Overloud TH-U bundles or those Neural DSP Archetype Series? (I imagine there must be quite consistent emulations in these VSTs)...

Tried them all, don't like Neural's wahs -too squeaky, too much high range to my taste.
TH-U wahs are... okay. I'd say they're at the top of the mid tier.
Amplitube I don't remember, as I never gelled with that suite so didn't spend much time.

Btw I had a Bad Horsie in my teens and hated it lol. But I guess my ears were shit back then too. I know my amp was.
