Probably looking for portamento but ill let someone else with more time answer. But look for portamento on a synth, that controls how much "glide" between notes there are

im not sure what you mean. I listened to the song (sick song btw) but don't really hear any gliding / portamento. There are chopped trumpet / mariachi samples. Maybe you are referring to the chopped up breakdown and build section? Is this the song? can you be more specific and leave a timestamp?

I think he's referring to the 'rising' riser sweep thing at 1.10, that's about all I can hear that has any glide to it.

It's a pitch automation, simply get your tracks key, and go from a low (say D note) to a higher one, with a pitch automation

The same thing can be achieved with portamento or glide, but you'd have to use more than one note, probably easier to automate the pitch envelope thusly:

Almost like it's the rising note that I've already told you how to make but idk

that's either correct or very close to it. it might not be cut up as audio in the "traditional" sense, directly on the audio channel. It could be a long sample inside a sampler with the sample start retriggering, and the sample end parameter automated to move it left to shorten the sample to the length you'd otherwise chop it to. That would let it repeat like that without a click, and also the notes to be easily played in the rising notes at the end of it, like a turnaround, instead of each slice being pitched up as a note. That would make it not an effects plugin on chopped audio, but parameter automation inside a sampler. Short of there being some dead giveaway in other parts of the track, i'm not sure how you might be able to really tell concretely without actually trying it.

Ah right yeah, I've got the wrong end of the stick because of all the talk of glide and portamento.

So it's the sampled build up thing we're looking for, I would suggest loading a long sample into Ableton's Simpler, and then just slicing it into 16ths or whatever, and use a different part of the sample each time for that build up kind of progression effect
