    Hi,

I’ve got bobdule’s Kontakt 8 installed and everything is working perfectly.

Now I want to finish some older projects that were made with Kontakt 7.
So I installed bobdule’s Kontakt 7 as well, but I can’t load the libraries anymore. I always get this message:

“Your version of Kontakt is too old to load this file, which was saved with Unknown Tool (unsupported). Please update...”

    My questions:

    • Can Kontakt 7 and Kontakt 8 run side by side without problems?

    • Are they fully compatible when installed together?

    • Is there any working solution for this situation?
For example, would Kontakt 7 R2R or Kontakt 7 Portable (vkDanilov) work properly next to bobdule’s Kontakt 8?

Any advice from someone who’s running both versions would be really appreciated.

    Thanks!

I managed to solve the issue.

When you run a Batch Resave in a newer version (like Kontakt 8), it overwrites every single .nki and .nkm file with the new version's header. This process is permanent and makes the files incompatible with any older version of Kontakt. Changing registry keys or XML files won't fix this because the instrument files themselves have been modified.

    The solution was:

    1. Replaced the .nki files: I overwrote the modified instrument files with the original, un-saved versions from my backups.

    2. Cleaned up XMLs: I deleted the outdated/conflicting .xml files for the affected libraries from the Service Center folder.

    3. Re-registered libraries: I ran the bobdule "Add Library" tool again to perform a fresh analysis and correctly register the libraries for both versions.
Everything is working perfectly side-by-side now. I hope this helps others who might run into the same problem!
