Here I have two new techno tracks. Tell me what you think. I didn't spend much time mixing and mastering.

    Track 1

    Track 2

    Track 3
This is not a techno track!
I also made this track this week so I thought I'd post it anyway

I like to produce multiple styles.

I checked them out at a low volume on my mac's internal speakers, just because I have Logic open already. They have to be mixed pretty well already because small speakers like that really highlight mistakes, and they sounded fine. I liked the first one, and I thought I was not into the second one as much; but the second one just takes longer to get going, like a dj intro format. I liked the third one the most, but that is more personal preference of genre than anything else.

I think the third track is the best in the mix and translates best on my phone.

I find it harder to mix hard dance music.

It almost seems like you went from 1st, most compressed, limited or clipped to the 3rd most musical and least limited.

Good way to try to figure out the monitoring thru the phone, it has to "sing" right! When phones started having memory we had like 16MB cards on an old Siemens SL45 and most of the tracks in my case were like Nirvana, Bob Marley, Sven Vath, Ini Kamoze, Fugees because it translated so well on a shitty speaker or crappy earbuds.

So the 3rd one was the easiest to mix?

Yes, that's right. I found the third one the easiest to mix. It also depends on how many elements are in your mix. The kick of the third track has more sub in it, so you can't push it as hard as techno, hardstyle, or hardcore kicks. You get distortion very quickly if you use a clipper or limiter.

Agreed, also at the top of the game everything is in those last 2-3-5%. Difference in the quality of the kicks, weather the synth can be listenable without the kick or not, it is just that obsessive. Also if the synth is really nice, what is the story after it, what kind of buildup will balance the energy - is it coherent to the track or the buildup is "generic", hence in those creative moments throwing stuff at it, the next day removing stuff again..

2hr session on a track, the next day whatever moves needs to be made mostly are heard in the first listen, 3rd day maybe doing whatever could be the intro or the outro or maybe some spin off idea, maybe layering the kick with the really good 909 sample handpicked, it is one of the hardest genres... period.

Pendulum had 600 revisions on one track, Astral Projection worked for months on one track.
Deleting the bad samples so you play the good ones more than the bad..this that, when mixing comes all that creative spark just melts away specially in the digital realm, otherwise one would just bounce 909 to the tape and move on.

Funny when they interview someone who´s really good, like Luke Slater in the studio and he wants to show of gear, it is almost impossible to make it sound good from the get go, and many other producers on the Rhythm Roulette never managing to make anything musical at all in like 20 minutes etc.

Anyway, i share your pain, keep up!

I made another track today and started a new one, where I already have the fundamentals.
I was stuck in a loophole for a long time, then I made an 8-bar loop, but I couldn't get anything done with the arrangement.
I also sometimes find it difficult to create the right build-ups and tension to keep the track interesting for listeners, so I try to make as many tracks as possible in a short time, save them, and work on them again later.

The problem is also that when you're working on a track and you're mixing it during the creation process, you quickly lose track because you keep replaying certain sections.

What I also find crazy about this forum is that there are so many users, but when I post a track, not even a handful respond.
I want some honest feedback and searching for people who can point me in the right direction. You simply can't do everything alone, and I don't want to make money with it.
I would never want to be in the spotlight.
I just do it because I like it.
