Not at all. The whole ecosystem, DRM, business model, CEO behavior, UX... everything related to AA is crap. Will anyone here disagree? The only good things about AA are the libraries and a couple of its plugins (and here I'm accounting for the R2R debloated releases, not the official ones!). At the end of the day, the listener will have no idea whether you used Nebula or a free Analog Obsession plugin, so I'd rather keep it simple and lightweight. And of course that's my opinion, but as I’ve shown, the reasons behind it are solid enough.

I'm currently testing VST guitar pedal > Nebula > NAM amp. It seems more lively, but I'm still experimenting. You can also try Nebula with soft synths, the trick is finding the right library.

 

Couldn't agree more. I was in the Nebula rabbit hole more than 10 years ago. If you know what you're doing there are better alternatives that sound better or at least the same, without cpu hogging, bugs, latency etc... it's simply a technology that has no sense to use in 2026 with all the alternatives we have, but to each his own, of course.

 

Nebula captures the non-linearity found in analogue hardware, so it's worth exploring IMO. I always use A/B testing, so I'm not a slave to any particular technology, I just use what sounds the best to my ears.

Nebula technology aka Volterra Kernel Synthesis has limitations in capturing non-linearities found in analog hardware. Tape behaviour is one example. Compression is another one. Heavy saturation/distortion is another one. It wowed me the first time I used it because it introduced some saturation on EQs, where if you where accostumed to straight digital eq it seemed to sound better and add that magic analog mojo, but once you understand how things work you simply learn to get that mojo in other, more efficient and more accurate ways. For me it's a total waste of time and CPU resources but I don't want to try to convince anyone so I'll stop it here

 

If you want efficiency just use AI Making music is an art form that should be labored over.

 

"more efficient and more accurate ways": this is what I wrote. I would be dumb to use less efficient and at the same time less accurate technologies. Making music doesn't involve using Nebula in the slightest (I love that passive aggressive emoticon though ).
Thank God I enjoy making music without AI and without Nebula: what a relief!

 

Can you share some examples of what you believe to sound better? Im always doing a lot of A/B and ive yet to find anything better than some of the recent libraries in Nebula. At least for EQ, but even some of the compressors and more esoteric programs. Im just wondering if theres something im missing, some plugin or technique i havent tried or something. Im not married to any particular workflow or software, so if theres something better id love to hear about it!

 

Is their a video to show how to create vst's instead of loading the programs thru the n4player ?

I don't drive those guys as I'm aware about the -18db rsm rule

but I used the AlexB Modern Flagship Console GE and noticed some weird sounds comming out of nowhere except when I bypass the n4player loaded with the input line channel

 

Phase 1: Directory Preparation
Place the Nebula installation folder directly into the *C:* drive. This root-level placement prevents many common permission errors and path length limitations within Windows.

Phase 2: Library Integration
Open the developer library folder (e.g., Tim P Opto B). You will find subfolders labeled Programs, Vectors, Skins, Setups, etc. Move these contents into the corresponding Programs, Vectors, etc. directories within your main Nebula installation folder.

Phase 3: Skin and Setup Implementation
Acquire the specific skin files for your library from a provider like Azzimov.

• Copy the skin assets into the Nebula folder, allowing the system to overwrite existing files when prompted.
  
  
• Ensure the Setup Files are included in this transfer, as these contain the configuration data required for the library to load.
  

Phase 4: Instance Generation

1. Launch the Nebula application.
   
   
2. Navigate to the Setups menu.
   
   
3. Select the specific library intended for a dedicated instance.
   
   
4. Locate the skin selection field and choose the Azzimov skin.
   
   
5. Set the output format to VST3.
   
   
6. Save your changes.
   
   
7. Restart your DAW or initiate a plug-in rescan to recognize the new VST3 file.
   

 

But when did you jump ship? The few powerhouse third party devs keep pushing it further and their understanding of how to get the best out of the tech gets more thorough as time goes on. It's arguable that many of the best libraries have been released in the last 3-6 months.

Is there a way to run 3rd party libraries without buying the full Nebula 4? No I'm not going to use a cracked version, I have legit Acustica stuff. Nebula 4 seems to be freaking expensive. Is there like lighter Nebula player version or sumthing?

sorry, but may I ask if you mean, music you are listening outside your DAW? music you are passively listening?
if so, what would be a good player which can load vst plugins?
