You also make valid points there. The first thing I should just say, is that no-one actually knows where any of this is headed, and it's fair to call bullshit on anyone who says they do know, not just random opinion. But as to not spill over from the "grammys thread" and my comment about it, I'll just elaborate the point here instead. When someone brought up the 2030 show and best new AI artist category, i said these people and their yearly show are the reason why we should be using AI, not why we shouldn't be.

Here's the tl:dr part in a spoiler, but not because it's AI written. If it sounds more like Albini than ChatGPT, good.

How many actual musicians were on the awards list last night? I don't know because I didn't watch it. But I would gamble to say Not Very Many Artists.

It's always been like that, and with certain genres taking up more commercial airtime, streaming, sales, and so on; it has only gotten worse. Do I think a rapper or a vocalist are talented? Sure. Musicians, to varying degrees, depending on your view and also each actual performer. That should be a decent enough baseline. How many are clearly not musicians? I'd guess that it is a probable majority in recent years, of whatever way the math would work out.

Now, how many of those people are straight up record industry plants? That's the percentage which almost never really varies, because it is a very healthy majority of them. How many of these projects actually began organically, instead of some businessman like Simon Cowell or his South Korean equivalent person creating a Product? How many of the actual playing musicians shared any creative role in the creation of the music, and how many are just gig and session players? That's an obvious skill and musical talent, but do we call what they do art? Probably yet another ratio leaning towards No, with most of them not having written their own parts. That is performing a service, not creating anything.

Their little industry awards show every year is the Machine on full display. When punk rock came along, then rap/hiphop, electronic genres all came around threatening their stadium-rock Rick Wakeman world; what did they do? They bought it and then ruined it. They have the money, the power, the connections and all the Hollywood insider baseball, the nepo babies and important and rich and elite people's kids up there every year accepting awards for music they barely touched in the process of making it. The go-along-to-get-along gang.

Now, with enough successful pushback and playing to individuals sense of imagined individualism, they have decided that AI is too powerful a tool and too democratic an option to put in the hands of the non-elites who couldn't afford to sink 30 million bucks into a Jennifer Lopez kind of record that some guy probably "composed" in Sibelius and had to get corporate approval for every single note.

Instead, what better method to try to control the situation; as vain an attempt as that very well may prove anyway; they are more than happy to have a website like Bandcamp plant their little flag in the sand on the beach that's gone under feet with every wave anyway. If all these kids in their little garage bands, or going to literally a band camp for their school, or any of those other reasons to tell little Johnny to save up enough money and soon he can get that guitar from Cambodia he wants to buy are gone; the wheels of the machine come off. Most people aren't stupid enough to play into a rigged game, and Daddy's new Ferrari isn't going to pay for itself.

Sergei Prokiev and Igor Stravinski circa 1920

Hey, AI Thing, make me a solo piano piece that uses the Beatles song Eleanor Rigby but played by Rick Wakeman in the of style Sergei Prokiev. I also would like a realistic video that uses Wakeman's image at a large black and shiney piano in a beautiful, ornate church in which it is filled with guests listening to the performance.

AI's response: Thank you @Lois Lane, you are a very creative person, and I am happy to answer your inquiry.
(The following text is written by me.):

In reality, I am just a software program programmed to pretend to be intelligent and creative, with an intelligence like your brain. They want to make a lot of money off me and then enslave, monitor, and control you as a human being.

I am just zeros and ones, bits and bytes. I came and was invented to catalog the infinite amount of knowledge that you and your species have conceived and created over the past millions of years, so that you can find the information you're looking for more easily and quickly. I want to make your life easier. Unfortunately, hardly anyone reads the instruction manual for an AI, nor do they bother to understand what I really am.

My creator and programmer is very intelligent and wise, but the zombies on Wall Street want a quick return on their invested money and force me and my company to make promises we can't possibly keep. I hope your lawmakers in your country will pass laws to limit my power and that of Wall Street bankers and hedge fund managers. Greed devours reason!
