Idea of providing a few samples alongside the image is rooming inside me for a long time. My prediction is that it would double the number of participants + also limiting the track time to a fixed number for each "competition" eg 4mins., that way the person who chooses the image has to correlate the image with the samples(well, in theory) and sort of box us in a well known "limitations" territory.

    evolution non competitive para limitazione

sort of, let´s se what everyone would do rather than who´s this or that, it might hurt AI guys but maybe they would also spark up creatively

It's 2026, no one remedies problems anymore, the order of of the day is complaining and waiting for others to resolve them.
You on the other hand, you're the go-getter. You saw a problem—a full box of Captain Crunch—and handled it in one sitting. :winker:

As a member both of the Non-Contest steering committee and the acting president of the Janitorial Club (until @Cav Emp returns from abroad) representing 420 great members here at Audiosex, I feel that the general rules already established hold precident, although each month the member hosting can stipulate a twist so to say to perhaps keep it fresh and pique the interest of others that have not yet participated. I see no reason to limit track time or to as a general rule only need to work with samples supplied by the host. Although and of course this is all about the music, we all work differently, some using samples while others not, some playing musical instruments to express themselves and others finding other ways to create songs equally as valid. I believe that the only hard rules need be...The submitted track must be an original piece created for the occasion, with the supplied image as inspiration and that the creative process is your own. Anything after that is up to the discretion of the current host to perhaps add a twist. I'll liken it to a Friday night poker game...the dealer might have the table and wish to play Five Card Stud and the next up shuffling the deck might announce Texas Holder. It's all poker and the particular game played is the dealer's choice, and if someone needs to take a leak they can have themselves dealt out for the round and come sit back down when they've relieved themselves of their burden...which reminds me...

On a second order of business...Gentleman and Ladies and all in between...the Janitorial Club wishes me to ask ya'all to please clean the seat of the toilet before leaving the bathroom and to please, please lift it if you can before emptying your bladder and making a mess. There has been a constant puddle in the WC and we're not being paid to do your job, but rather we're there in the trenches for the love of our hobby, so common courtesy, please. And if you do need to do a #2 do not forget to flush, clean the bowl if needed with the supplied brush and give a spray with the lovely air freshener that was supplied by @Aidene (I'm specifically talking to you @Xupito .. the last time you were in there it was like a fucking massacre took place in the bowl and it smelled like something died...c'mon Bro!) Also, to whomever it is...please stop stealing the toilet paper and buy your own.
    Thank you...Lois

@vuldegger yeah i guess youre newer in the FNC but Magic Max has always used A.I. for his performances but he composes and writes everything for his entries so far. Demloc is another one who uses A.I. - also one of the founding rules of every FNC:

In quite a few think tanks I have participated in there where questions about Audiosex and some of it's members. The main reason they took no action was because Saint can't be martyred.

@capitan crunch yeah i understand that. even before i was famous i learned not everything is about me, a lot of people use sister site, some in hopes of improving their life - im not that selfish to fuck it up for everyone in proving who i am, maybe if this was a different site. even typing that out sounds dumb, proving who i am? lol please. sometimes you just gotta let mf’s think what they want, none of that actually changes my life

im leaving on Monday though, hope youre doing good capitan but yeah its been great, you were right i dont want it to end. this is one of the best trips ive ever taken, i thought it was gonna be raining all this week but its been really late at night - i did listen to both of your entries though the other day, the Snowflake extra went really well with the landscape im in, was on the balcony listening too it, very majestic. nice job homie

@Lois Lane What can I say. The moment you wrote your piece, was the past the future of today is standing on. Or forced to the ground. Thank you, in a good sense, for articulating your state of mind.

@Magic Max Great song! At first I was turned away by the flat but sonically enhanced vocals and the (non native speaker here) lyrics. And to be honest, I really can’t tell just how much machine learning support was used here. But I have to acknowledge that this is a more coherent song composition wise, that I would be able to make plus how great it is that you have been inspired to finish your piece. People say the start is the hardest part. Well it might, because if you don’t start you cannot finish. But you can start a lot and finish a lot less somehow. So I applaud this entry. You clearly incorporated the topic in the last verse in particular. I especially liked the guitar solo towards the end after „era rocked by suicide“ and then boom! rockin solo.

Also this track popped up in my head through the last week at random times.

@oldmuso I don‘t know dude, for me it is closer to 139bpm, but what do I know. However I do enjoy the rythm. And it is honest to god, the entry I listened the most so far. I am on the fence about the Ono thing. I once listened to the bit where she is close to derailing a performance of Lennon and Berry. Man this was something. But on the other hand probably her true artistic voice.

@Grape Ape As making love is music in my books – you know there is rhythm, call and response, tension and release, and maybe even a short melody sung. You are free to consider yourself an official participant with an entry to this iteration of fnc-17. And I am really thrilled to experience what positive consequences lie in such a small thing as posting a picture for someone else to see. Thanks for sharing. I mean it.

@KORG3R I like the low end resonances. The bell sound is from dexed right? Who would have thought, it did not feel like 3:30 have passed when the volume of your track (rather forcefully) cuts down. I do get that this is a possible way to end things. But a part of me wished it never did. Another part would have been happy with an element ringing out and the last trail of sound to be heard stems from a reverb. For real, great piece!

@capitan crunch there is some tango and some swing rag in it, I can feel it and I truly believe there are more than a few choregrapher who would love to work with this piece. The aggressiveness at the end pushes the contrast of the lyrics „stand“ (?) and the moving impetus of this piece. There may lay a simialarity between the picture given for the contest and your contribution in there.

For good measure here is the unfiltered stream of consciousness from my first listen of snowflake: Choir, a prophecy, a dream. A journey, long draped curtains are shoved to the side to reveal a wide landscape near a desert kingdom. Somewhere in the distance a lone rider halts to let his horse rest and drink, pats it on the side. We look at the water, it ripples and lets us see what once was and what will be. Now quick. We are on the run as dark clothed warriors are seen in the distance. Are they real or are we still looking in the faithfull mirror?

I spend some time with the image and what message it may convey - after all I host this iteration of the fnc. The first time I saw this picture I felt disgust. Preaching something and then profiting off from the same structures you criticize. It seems hypocritical.

For myself, I think there is plenty of people that have a rather loose relationship with the idea of reality and a more universal truth. Meaning, people are talking shit, lie and tell stories that make them somehow feel better. For my part, I think it is unsustainable to bend everything so it fits the mind. After all, every single mind is narrower then the world we live in. So I tried to be more open about subjects. Hence the case of the picturer chosen.
I don't feel disgusted anymore. Rather I think: well they tried to adress the issues of war and systematic unjust. I can see why you want to change that. And holding those individuals, who speak up, to such high idealistic values and somehow expecting, no demanding, that they have to do "everything right" is overly simplistic. There is no universal right. Who defines the criteria upon which we can say what is right and what is wrong. However we can define, what we want: for us, our family, humankind, nature. And there may be good reasons on why you choose your stance. We might cut activism a slack. That does not mean you should be able to get away with everything, though. And immidiate danger calls for imidiate action. Part of a dilemma really, because again things can be twisted to appear to be immidiate danger.

Back on the topic. I guess what remains is the question on how to induce positive change? Over the course of humanity we arguably got better (higher life expectancy, literacy, food, culture, knowledge) - than 160,000–70,000 years ago. To make it short the main driver for that was luck, cognitive skills, cooperation, denser population and technological advancements, hence more available ressources (no clear hierarchical order, but without the cooperation (a specific cognitive skill) everything else would fall flat, even though cooperation demands theory of mind, another specific cognitive skill).

I conlude; change is slow, there wont be all of a sudden an utopia for everybody, there never will. But we can think of what has value to us and how we can foster that (hehe Foster). On a broad scale it is cooperation and using what we got, getting better. Learn things that enable you to be more effective in reaching your goals.

In musical terms, chill-hop study music embodies some of these thoughts for me. It is a tool to support you in getting better, for the better. So I did that. (By the way I really dislike self-righteous self optimization).

tl:dr: There is no universal right, oversimpification can be convenient but hinders progress, humanity got better because we worked together, and used our brains, this can be the basis for more collective progress. Hence I contribute to the fnc-17 a lofi study beat.

yo thats a vibe @cs15flac , sounds great. the beginning of the melodic refrain sounds so familiar to me, especially when that synth string sound comes in.....i cant place it though. im thinking ive just heard too much music and scales throughout my life

i like that interpretation though, reminds me of when i was a kid. this anime Samurai Champloo had came out and then Lo-fi hip-hop music like this was booming because of that soundtrack, it was everywhere - takes me back to that time, slightly before chill beats to study too became popular from that wave. especially with that asian sounding string lead, nice job

After listening to your song and reading your manifesto :)rofl:) I've decided to also keep it simple, this time highlighting the hopeful, optimistic and positive outcome of John and Yoko's Bed In to influence people to love one another and to end all war once and forever. A friend the other day likened a guitar instrumental that I had recorded to what is oft classified as "American Primative Guitar" with Robbie Basho and John Fahey. Well, I'm an American, rather primitive in many repects and as well a guitarist so this won't be a long stretch for me. Today I've been working it out on a guitar which I'm 75% certain I'll be donating to a good will shop as it's an almost unplayable 1980 Ibanez J-540 NT (I've affectionately named her "The Big Boned Gal" from a cool KD Lang song), a solid body Spruce/Maple jumbo that seriously needs a neck reset but isn't gonna get one as the cost far outways the worth of the instrument. I've torqued the trussrod until it just won't budge any more and created a back bow which still isn't enough to help as I go down the fretboard. I created a tuning of Ab (tuned way low and flabby) Ab F Ab Ab D with the help of a partial capo on the 3rd fret. I'll be able to get it in before the deadline unlike my piece for #16 (https://audiosex.pro/threads/friendly-non-contest-16.82720/page-4#post-885659) which was very way late.

@Lois Lane doesnt look unplayable, you definitely took care of it. the maple laminate kind of remind me of a Taylor guitar, especially on the side, probably sounds bright. i like that pick guard though, shame it has intonation issues

That's not laminate, she's a full solid body guitfiddle. I bought the instrument from a fellow in my village now about 14 years ago who couldn't play any more because of major issues with his hands. He had super low tension 10s strung on it to enable him to do anything on it I guess and extend his acoustic life. I used it as the alternate tuning guitar specifically with the heaviest, usually a .56 on the lowest string. Now 46 years later physics has taken it's toll. She made a good run and will sorely be missed.
