Xils Lab Oxium: the orange performance synth gets a free update 2.0 - January 23, 2026

Xils Lab Oxium is a performance-oriented subtractive Synthesizer, and with version 2.0, it now supports VST3, has better graphics, and more.

In 2012, French developer Xils Lab released Oxium, a performance-oriented subtractive Synthesizer with a very distinctive, eye-catching orange interface. In retrospect, Oxium certainly flew under the radar for many.

The Synthesizer has now been on the market for 14 years. That’s a long time for a plugin, and it still gets updates. Xils Lab has today released Oxium 2.0, a free update for existing users.

Oxium is a performance oriented synthesizer, offering both a classic pure analog sound and modern tones, as well as highly desirable real-time modulation capabilities, allowing you to play a synthesizer in ways you could never have imagined.

What Is Xils Lab Oxium 2.0?
Oxium 2.0 is a performance-oriented subtractive, virtual-analog Synthesizer plugin for macOS and Windows. It wasn’t just the orange color of the Xils Lab Oximum 2.0 UI that stood out; the engine was unique for 2012 among VA synths, perhaps not so much today.

It features two analog-modeled oscillators with all classic features you expect from a subtractive synth, including PWM for all waveforms, glide/portamento, hard sync, ring mod, and more.

A unique feature of the oscillator is the ability to use up to 8 oscillators per patch, allowing you to create rich sounds.

The signals can be adjusted in two dedicated mini mixers with a built-in noise generator, one for each filter. Plus, you have serial and parallel modes available.

Talking of a filter. It houses two zero-delay feedback-based filters: one self-resonating multimode filter with LP 24/12, BP 6/12, and HP, and a second capable of formant filtering, with LP/BP/HP filters and an emphasis or articulation parameter.

On the modulation side, it hosts three assignable DsyncADSR envelopes, three advanced multimode LFOs with fade-in and note retrigger, and a unique Le Masque controller modulator with 16 freely drawable zones.

A modulation matrix is the central hub for modulators and offers additional options such as velocity, aftertouch, and more.

Xils Lab says Oxium 2.0 particularly excels in its performance. For this, it offers playful poly/mono arpeggiators, 8 play modes (5 poly/3 mono), and more. Just like in 2012, Oxium 2.0 continues to forgo effects.

    Oxium 2.0 Update
The new Oxium 2.0 is out now, and it’s a free update for existing users. It’s not a significant update, but more of a maintenance, making it ready for the future.

On the one hand, it introduces a new, resizable, high-resolution user interface. On the other hand, it now supports VST3. It took a while, but it’s good that it’s here now.

Further, Pro Tools users can use mono and mono-to-stereo with new standard shortcuts. Xils Lab also updated the preset manager, bringing it to the level of its other Synthesizer plugins. Alongside this, it comes with various bug fixes.

    First Impression

I am pleased to see that the Oxium Synthesizer is getting a 2.0 update after 14 years on the market, and one that is free. New features would have been nice, maybe we’ll see them later.

The Xils Lab Oxium 2.0 update is now available as a free download for existing users. To celebrate this release, you can get Oxium 2.0 for 29,99€ instead of 99€. It runs as a VST, VST3, AU, and AAX plugin on macOS (native Apple Silicon + Intel) and Windows.

If you listen to this track/remix I believe he did the whole moving ARP bass synth with Oxium
You can hear it in a professional production:

Idk man, I have a pretty wild imagination when it comes to synths. For instance, I once imagined I could play with Serum using my neighbor's dick. It worked, and I won a grammy. The grammy turned out to be a granny, who was here on an expire visa. Fun times.
