A solution would be to simply create a platform just for AI releases. If you dont give a shit where your music comes from, AIcamp, or whatever you want to call it, would be the place for you.

Or if existing platforms arent willing to remove AI, create an option for users to sort or "hide" ai generated content. Personally, I think thats the best option we can hope for because I dont see any AI going away any time soon.

In my mind they're not really comparable. "AI" driven tools are just tools like paint brushes in my opinion. The ones you listed don't generate music by themselves as far as I know, maybe EZ things go bit into that direction but still.

No, this sounds like how diarrhoea might taste...

...while this reminds me of the very best Swiss chocolate I've ever indulged in.

This news also gives courage and some confidence:

Grammy Awards Bans AI: Human Creators Take Center Stage

The Recording Academy, responsible for the prestigious Grammy Awards, has decided to ban artificial intelligence (AI) in the music industry. To preserve the essence of human creativity, this decision marks a significant turning point in the intersection of technology & art. Let’s delve into the details of this game-changing ruling and its implications for the future of the music industry.

    Grammy Awards Reinforce Human Creativity

The Recording Academy’s bold declaration strongly emphasizes human creators, making it clear that only works attributed to human authorship will be eligible for the coveted Grammy Awards. This move aims to protect the authenticity and artistry that comes from the depths of human imagination.

AI and Music: A Delicate Balance

While the new rule strictly prohibits AI-only works from consideration, there is a glimmer of hope for music created with AI assistance. The academy’s updated guidelines state that music created in collaboration with AI technology may qualify in certain categories. However, it’s crucial to note that a work lacking human authorship will not be eligible in any category.

You can upload your recording (riff, vocal) and have service generate rest of the song, that could be considered substantial, everything else doesn't fall in that category, you using some target in Ozone or some MIDI predictions.

    Don't over react to this.

If they let the AI flood go, their companies will simply close doors.
If the market is flooded by AI music using the same recipe ... who is going to get the cake ?
They want to SHARE the cake. So they create rules and laws to cut the partions ... simple as that.

Problem is once you generate AI slop, the art was created by an LLM not you. Ownership laws are still debated so it makes the entire case a legal nightmare for Bandcamp.

We can all see where this might go: someone who hates you or just feels like being a jerk could flag content "on suspicion of." No objective assessment tools used to discern A.I. content. If you have a lot of music up on Bandcamp but it's not selling, Bandcamp can do a little housekeeping on its servers and delete it all - "on suspicion of."

That's not true, Bandcamp doesn't delete music even if it doesn't sell!

Yeah, totally valid take, that's why I'm all for legislation and transparency of these services, not just for music, there are far more worse use cases for picture/video, been seeing some concerning pranks lately that rely on deep fakes and hope this spirals out of control soon, so some actions take place.

However clumsily its executed, flagging and banning AI is probably a healthy/smart attempt to raise your platform above the oncoming tsunami of mediocrity and bad vibes.

AI as a serious creative tool might really struggle this year.
    • The lack of direct control and accuracy is a fundamental problem. Still not solved by the art or music generation tools. Detail has improved by scaling up training but they are still trying to brute force steer it using primitive Control tech that appeared 4+ years ago. People are getting bored of the random music/art generator concept
    • It's not attracting professional creatives who might be able to do innovative things with it. In the arts (bar a few hustlers and song writers) almost no one is interested in it. It has no credibility, its just a stock music, art and video generator.
    • Its still a legal and ethical minefield.
    • Most people aren't seeing big benefits from its integration and still don't trust it.
    • The reliance on eternally expanding Data farms is becoming a BIG problem - public awareness of their huge hardware, financial and ecological impact is growing.
This use of LLM AI doesn't look like a profitable market at all. Annoyingly, it has great non destructive practical uses supporting other workflows, but this useful application of it wont make them rich.

The bros in their desperation to maintain investment and hype handed these primitive tools for free to the social media addicted, content vomiting part of the public.

And now the internet is becoming flooded with low effort novelty crap.

Giving it to public i suspect might have been a terrible short sighted idea. I'm not sure they can turn the ship around. My impression is the word AI is JUST becoming associated with lies, stealing, fakery, laziness and boring content.

I've put some of my well-crafted songs that are unique in style into suno and a lot of the time it comes out with interesting new versions of them.

Its still my music - the same chords, bass etc. but that would be seen as AI music. Where do you draw the line?

I also tried generating songs to a style without uploading music but it seems to come out with same-ish generic music, which is the slop most people are talking about. Sometimes it comes up with something interesting and unique on its own, but its rare.

The lack of cherry-picking makes the whole thing look bad in my eyes, when it is just another tool we can use to give us new ideas, inspiration and perspectives on our own music.

Personally I drew the line where you just do what you wrote, use those new ideas, inspiration and perspective and then make another version of the track on your own, without having Suno watermark in your music. So line is between you using AI ideas to work further on your own music and you using AI generated outcome as final result.

ContentID had similar outrage, solution was just don't blatantly use loops/material that can get you flagged, even then there was abuses and false claims, but still, it was more effective then actually having nothing. I didn't once got claim on my own music, even now these AI music checkers give that same music 94% human made result. Why would I at this point use Suno to make and then release extended or re-imagined versions of my own music thus sacrificing authenticity of my own work, only answer would be laziness.

Some users choose the AI route to get their hands on other people's money with minimal effort.

Support live bands with real musicians, go to concerts again, and if you like the band, buy a t-shirt or a CD.
    This really helps the musicians.

This just came up on my youtube feed:

I feel comfortable enough as a producer to not need this kind of application. But what I find interesting about it is it's not that far off from existing tools that help producers already. For example, the "cover" feature reminds me a bit like audio to midi apps that have been around for decades. You could bounce that vocal take to midi and simply apply the midi to any number of vst instruments... with a little tweaking you wouldnt be that far off. Will it be as expressive? Probably not, but the process comes with the benefit of learning your trade and I would argue that over time it would help you improve as a producer.

AI as a tool for music making has been around for a minute. It's embedded in many of the plugins and applications we already use. But that line still exists between how much is ok to use and how much is too much. I do feel that there is a difference between using AI tools to help in the writing process rather than just typing a prompt.

While I totally agree with you, remember, you, me, Lois Lane and many others grew up in a time when music was 24/7, 365 days a year and a musician could walk into a club, a pub, a hotel, a center and ask if they wanted a band and they would almost get a gig there and then.
Many of the people you are preaching this to would not understand or believe you if you said the above, but I agree it needs to be said in the supporting. Many generations never experienced what we did and never will now and it is impossible to make anyone believe that you had to knock back gigs because your calendar was full and every musician you knew was working. Nobody would believe you.

But yes, preach it, people need to get confidence in live music again :)
