I think that anybody who frequents this site (myself included) needs to listen carefully to what the video poster is saying. I agree with everything he says-there are many insightful and thoughtful true-isms here.

 

Just sayin'...I think this guy nails it! This describes me to the "T" and I dare say describes many others as well.

 

Actually, I think some of the people commenting didn't really watch the video. They saw the prominent title on the video screenshot, saw John Mayer, and decided it was about how a certain form of music was no longer as relevant as it once was in popular culture.

The video presents a very worthwhile message that probably would have fit perfectly in the very long "gong" thread that's recently been circulating.

It's central message, done with precision at just around 3 minutes length, is about how insidious marketing, combined with what are often faulty hopes and dreams, have led so many of us to think we can't achieve what we want musically unless, and until, we have the latest plugin. A poignant reminder at the start of a New Year that many of our musical heroes had only a fraction of what we have to work with, and managed to create greatness anyway.

 

He could really use a better de-esser.

Thank goodness my triangle is still relavent. I am a master of it, and there is very little competition. I can play it much better than John Mayer, and his amps. So, I am good for now.

 

That Martin is a beauty! But I say, go write your hit with whatever you have, it'll do if a hit is somewhere inside of you.

I have a '71 Guild F47 Jumbo Dreadnaught that's totally beat to shit. Literally took off some of the wood around the sound hole when I wanted to learn to strum like Richie Havens. My history with that acoustic is too great to give it up, even if I made a mess of it over the years. Got to play it with Dylan, John Prine, Betty Buckley (great Broadway singer), Peter Frampton... even successfully auditioned for John Hammond with it. They should probably just put it in my casket with me when my time comes. No new plugin gonna beat it.

This is actually true for many youtubers. The Ss are so pronounced that you literally have to turn down the volume significantly.

 

this is just a trash AI loser created video, just listen to the ridiculous fake sounding voice. anyways guitars will never go out of style or use because Acoustic guitars can be carried around easily and played anywhere anytime. Aren't you all just tred of the AI shit posts on shit-tube. those f*cking shite sounding fake voices drive me crazy and youtube has now become a complete festering pile of fake shit. I admit I inly had to hear that sickening AI voice and immediately closed it.

Sounded human to me, and he makes some valid points about musicians who let plugins get in their way. Actually though, that can even be expanded upon to the DAW, and even any production/mixing tasks happening at the same time as the music creation. I was mostly just joking about him needing another plugin.
