Do shockmounts PRICE matter?

    Like in title — a lot of audio experts on YouTube tend to say that "you don't need a shockmount" but they're using dynamic microphones.

    I have condenser mic at the moment and I wonder does price matter?

    I saw a RODE PSM1 mount for 55$ and KA-LINE DSM45-L for like 10$. There are also some ones from Temu which cost 7$.

    The thing is that they're built equivalently same, at least for my unexperienced eye.

    I have an (yet) untreated room and I would like to get some options SINCE these have same looks.

    Ask GPT.... Generally its saying that noise reduction is the biggest win. You might get pickup with a cheap version, typing for example, but an expensive one will cut out more.

    Yes, they matter. Particularly with capacitor/condenser designs.

    Be cautious of what you hear/watch on YouTube. It's easy to make everything a conspiracy when you don't understand it.

    @canbi .. I use the Rycote Invision USM-VB for all my large capsule condenser microphones as well as the pop filter that can also be had by them. It works as it should to cut deep rumble, is stable and built well. I've been using them for over 10 years without issue.

    After years before of using band shockmounts like the KA-LINE DSM45-L or Rode PSM-1 I've stopped doing so as they lose elasticity, become loose and I hate to change them out for new bands.

    Stay away from the Temu offering for 7 bucks. It's cheap garbage.

    Having some shock mount is better than having no shock mount, so really anything works as long as it's reliable. I had an Audio Technica shock mount that broke on me randomly one day, it was a pain in the ass to make it "work" until I replaced it with a much cheaper one that is a lot more reliable. For me, the sign of a decent shock mount is that it requires the least amount of force to put a mic inside of it, it needs some kind of adjustment to open and close the slot reliably. If it can do that, the rest of the shock mount is the material it's made of (plastic or metal) and simple physics. I honestly see no reason to overspend on shock mounts unless you're breaking them one after another.

    Edit: also worth noting that a shock mount only really helps with reducing vibration noise from whatever the stand is touching (such as desk or the ground). It won't really do anything else, so having a treated or untreated room works the exact same here. It won't help if you think it's going to fix other types of noise.

    I always, ALWAYS recommend Rycote shockmounts. The quality and the build is flawless.

    Difference is more on the durability AND stability side.
    Because at the end, mic will be suspended by an elastic band, whatever brand.
    TBone (Thomann) at 15 euros is more than enough for an entry level condenser mic, like my Studio Project B1 (very nice all round mic btw).

    PS : or you can go rigid mount, but it is not the same price
