Upon reading the title thought that this thread was about Moria's audio chain using multiple compressors like I usually do and so was interested in his take.

Never mind. I guess this is my " Mac please" moment.

I use 'OKA unarchiver pro' you can set the pw so you don't have to search/copy paste it all the time

 

If I remember correctly, I once dragged the 001 file into the winrar gui and extracted. Or, something like that - using the actual GUI. It did extract. (WIN)

 

• Is this what's going on? What @Producer is reporting below?
• Are you downloading from two separate sites?
• Is there a nomenclature discrepancy?

 

What I've learned is to right click on the .zip file using BetterZip, enter the password & that's it.

well that was... .sit!

stuffit was slooow, but always worked - whereas zip and rar you had completely different versions of in these days, which were not compatible with each other. (macrar vs "posix" rar, zipit vs "windows" zip)

plus you did never know whether a file is for mac, linux oder windows when it was zip or rar.

in my "classic" based LAN network i exclusively use .sit for small files and .toast for bigger files. it is always clear what it is, as well as how to use it.

not to speak of the fun fact that inside a 9 / PPC / HFS+ enviroment you would not even have to compress things at all, as most client server systems would have supported transferring files uncompressed.

an OS9 system can be copied from another computer, moved to the trash, and then you can exchange the finder for protools and the computer will boot from the trash and boot right into protools. and if you didnt like the look of something you hacked into the resources and added better pictures. i can´t tell you how much i love this OS.

When I switched to mac, The first app i downloaded for unzipping was keka and had the same problem.
I would recommend you to download two more apps.
1) Unarchiver
2) Archive Utility

With this trio, you'll be able to unzip everything. I am only telling you what worked for me.

I like automations and scripts to handle and check stuff, if something is out of spec I just ignore it. cant stand why some folks prefer making simple stuff overly complicated. if nobody cares anymore the releaser might adapt to standards. multipart zip with password are the worst imho, not mentioning password on dmg
