I remember that I used to watch tv on PC, and Mtv was always in background.
Now it's all gone, damn nostalgy.

Here during the sun eclipse of august 1999.

Why did they wait so long to get rid of that garbage, as long as they were profiting they kept it going even though almost everyone was sick of it and not watching anymore. The era of MTV was long gone well over 20 years ago. Time for something new and interesting. but that will be very difficult. The world is moving and changing too fast and it seems most don't have any common interests anymore.

You have to sell advertising to a private broadcaster; the price, or rather the revenue from the ads, depends on the ratings.
If the ratings drop, either the programming gets worse, or they disappear from the market.

The Tagesschau (prime-time early evening news) costs up to €90,000 for 30 seconds.

    End after 44 years

Paramount Skydance shuts down MTV music channels
    Updated: December 31, 2025

It's the end of an era. After 44 years, Paramount Skydance is shutting down its international MTV music channels. The reason is competition from streaming services and social media—and competition with Netflix.

Thus ends the era that began in 1981 with a famous music video: "Video Killed the Radio Star". Ironically, radio, often declared dead, is still quite alive 44 years later.

Like I always say: the only thing this rotten fucking system wants is to churn out an army of mindless scrolling zombies with their brains leaking out their ears. Obviously, blasting actual good music could turn you into a sharp, dangerous motherfucker (either from the pure genius in the musical structure or the lyrics that actually say something), so naturally, the powers that be would rather ram infinite streams of brain-rotting reality show garbage down your throat to mass-produce more drooling, phone-humping idiots shambling through life like the vacant corpses they’ve become... sad but extremely true...

PS: Happy New Year to everyone:drunks:

The whole of MTV these days is just TV noise in sea of noise... In some cases tho MTV (the music video portion) actually exposed some new generations to what music ACTUALLY WAS (when playing 70's 80's 90's pop, rock, and even some cross over stuff). Like playing an instrument or two or three, writing original lyrics, not scamming and using samples off of real musicians and calling it your own... Now all the new generation chowder heads will have to learn about what real music is from their aunties... what-the-fuck-ever .. who really gives a shit anyway... Buddy Rich was right - "If you don't have musical ability you'll end up playing in a rock band somewhere" or worse, sitting in a bedroom trying to sample other peoples work so you can possibly capitalize on it...
