After the first rate work finding second rate free pianos, I thought I'd mention free pianos that actually sound like I dunno real pianos. (Do ya still love me?)

Personally I find that almost all pianos sound decent above C5, sometimes C4, but the lower octaves sound dull and thin. Thats my test for a good piano library, so far Alicia's Keys is the best one I've found (not free, I know).

Until I find a really really good one, I'll keep micing my Yamaha U3.

 

I actually really dig Acoustik Piano (also, Elektrik Piano) for Kontakt. I realize it's on the low end of the fidelity/articulation scale, but it sounds great to me and really sits in a mix well.

 

Since we are hitting non-free anyone try the Giant. That is so much fun to screw with. Plus I still love Sampletekk Black!

 

TruePianos, Piano One(as free) are very cool too

 

Piano One is an excellent sounding VSti. It is actually down for reconstruction as they are revamping it. I can't wait to hear the revamp if they improve upon the original it should be quite amazing.
